I can watch Bob Ross endlessly. Nevermind the happy little things and the times it looks like he's fuckin' up his own paintings. It's quality television. And I love the way they mic the canvas so closely.

the other thread only has 12 replies...oh well...he was a great man...etc etc...lots of good info for the beginner... as an artist myself I have always admired and respected him...he did not have any pretensions about what he did. but he was a great teacher...and that's a good thing!

7. I like Bob Ross. Don't so much like his paintings,

or at least, don't dislike them...

But I totally love what he was doing - he was making the possibility of making art accessible to all sorts of people, so they could find something relaxing and creative and spiritually fulfilling to their lives, without the pretentions of an art school attitude, etc.

And he never pretended it was fine art, or anything other than a sort of folksy fun thing to do. He was a genuine man, with a good heart and a big love for painting and for people and for bringing a feeling of goodness to people's lives "Doesn't that feel good to paint that? Paint another cloud if it makes you happy. Isn't that a good feeling? Is this great art? Maybe not, but that's not with this about - this is about you painting what you want and seeing that you, too, can paint trees and mountains and waters and clouds and isn't that relaxing? Don't you feel better now? You betcha!"

I applaud you, Bob Ross! You are the anti-Kinkade!
