Favourite sandwich?
Mine is tuna fish on whole wheat...lite on the mayo with lettuce and tomato! Crisps (potato chips) are a bonus. Yum!

What's yours?

45. Grilled Cheese - Italian Style
Use sourdough bread, buttered with garlic butter. Jack cheese ( I know, it's not the most Italian of cheeses, but it's the oilest and that's what counts). Thin sliced tomato inside, and bacon bits. And since the bread is so big, you slice it like a pizza!

We made these when I was a kid...

Both can be found at my favorite Ann Arbor deli: Zingerman's.

27. Grilled cheese, crispy bacon, tomato
Any type of bread. Fry bacon crispy then include with the cheese and tomato. It's a Jersey thing. During a motor trip through the Ozarks during the later 50's, stopped at a small family owned restaurant and asked for this sandwich. The waitress with her charming accent, was delighted to have the cook make this weird grilled cheese sandwich. When the sandwich arrived, the bacon and tomato was pinned to the outside of the sandwich with a toothpick. They just couldn't place that bacon and tomato together with the cheese. It was a delightful experience but not the sandwich we had hungered for.

21. exactly what you're having - tuna
tuna on wheat, sometimes sourdough. Lettuce, tomato, sometimes onion and if making it at home, some celery and/or parsley chopped up. Tuna!

A close runner-up, though, is turkey with Havarti cheese and avocado.

croque monsieur. I know we're suppose to hate the French and all, but man, can they make a good sandwich.

I can't pinpoint one sandwich, but these are my favorites:
Salami, proscuitto, provolone panini on a ciabatta; Corned beef and swiss on rye; BBQ beef (has to be from the south, not the west); New Orleans muffeleta: and what we get in Miami, a grilled ham, pork and swiss Cuban sandwich.

There is a place in Tulsa called Elmer's BBQ down on Peoria. The "Badwich" is a little bit of everything they have on a bun, including a rib. The hot BBQ sauce will remove paint, so it's best to mix it with some of the mild!

61. takes a little work, but it's luscious (and not low-cal)
Marinate chicken thighs in soy sauce, about half an hour, then saute until done. Still hot, put one or two thighs on a soft 6" sandwich roll (no mayo required but you can use it if you want). Top with hot roasted red peppers* and sauted onions, then top with a slice of fontina or asiago cheese. :9

* roasted red peppers have become such a fad, such a cliche, but they really are wonderful and are perfect in this sandwich

64. The two best sandwiches in the world
are Jim's Ultimate Grilled Tuna and Lew Rothman's BBB.

Jim's Ultimate Grilled Tuna is a fresh tuna filet grilled over open coals between two slices of toasted Italian bread with dill sauce, lettuce and tomato.

Lew Rothman's BBB is really a protest sandwich. He said he was getting pissed-off that the restaurants in his area were cutting back on the bacon in a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, so he invented the BBB--which means Bacon, Bacon and More Bacon. A BBB is a whole pound of Oscar Meyer bacon between two slices of toasted Wonder bread with Hellman's Mayo on both.
