Mom, 15, Charged With Neglect For Handing Baby To Strangers

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- A 15-year-old mother was charged with child neglect Wednesday for leaving her baby boy with two teenage strangers she met at a motel, sheriff's officials said.

The young mother approached the two young women, ages 16 and 18, on Tuesday outside a Motel 6 and handed them her baby before immediately leaving in a cab, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.

The two women took care of the boy -- who deputies said is about 10 months old -- even stopping to buy food and diapers for him. But they grew tired of caring for the boy, and called the sheriff's office at about midnight Wednesday to report their situation.

Investigators learned the mother's name and phone number, and they had the teenagers call the mother to set up a meeting to return the child, the sheriff's office said.

That means this girl was getting around when she was between 13.5 and 14.5 years old! (depending on how many months into 15 years she is).
