You may have seen him on the PBS special. He is probably the most famous Red-tailed hawk you've ever heard about. Pale Male had made a nest on a swank New York building overlooking Central Park. Yesterday the buildings managers took the nest down. Those fucking idiots, the nest had been up there for a long time, why yesterday? That's all right, Pale Male is a survivor, his spirit can not be undone, he will soar over the pettiness of these silly humans.

1. All over the news around here...
lots of Audubon types interviewed, and Mary Tyler Moore, who lives in the building and says its sucks they threw him out.

We are, btw, swimming in red-tailed hawks here in Joisey, and might send a few NYC's way if they don't get thrown out on a regular basis.

iirc, there was once a Peregrine falcon living on one of the gryfons on the Chrylser building. Quite popular that one was, with reports of sightings in the papers.

2. Why?
Was he getting nesting close to something dangerous?

4. Most of the building's residents complained about the hawks.
Apparently, partially-eaten pigeons would occasionally land on the ground by the doorway, and the residents were not happy about that. MTM may have been the only resident upset about the eviction, I'm not sure. A lot of other folks who enjoy watching the hawks were upset about it. I hope that Pale Male and his family can find a good new location to build a nest. I'm pissed about the eviction too.
