1. I don't have asthma, but you need to use an acid blocker
as gastric hyperacidity can make your asthma worse by making you cough more than you need to

2. I don't have it but, on another note, have you ever heard of this?
http://www.lyprinolusa.com/studies/lyprinol/respiratory/index.html

I'm going to try it for my arthritis but, evidently, it has a significant salutory effect on asthma, as well. By the way, I'm buying it from a different source than this website.

PS I have GERD and I treat it with Prilosec. Works like a charm.

3. Are you talking about
Feeling extremely full after some moderate size meals and maybe feeling like you might need a puff off the rescue inhaler? Because there are some times when I'd say if I didn't know better that sherbet caused an asthma attack--but not quite.

Is that the indigestion you are talking about? I actually don't have any answers but it would be interesting to know if this is common, or if there are better ways of handling it than just avoiding certain foods.

8. a friend of mine ...
just got diagnosed with a hiatal hernia ... she's been having pretty bad pain from indigestion ...

some "do it yourself" fixes they told her about included elevating the head of her bed a few inches, eating more frequently but eating smaller meals, and not eating too late in the day ...

9. I've got a hiatal hernia, too
I used to take acidophilus for it, but I found it wasn't strong enough for me, because I'm bad (life with chronic indigestion is unpleasant; life without coffee is unbearable), so I must resort to taking Pepcid.

10. Agree on all
I also thought the possibility existed that I also had a hiatal hernia. I have had a lifetime of broncitus and the constant coughing may have finally done me in.

13. You mean acid reflux, which exacerbates asthma?
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 12:30 AM by Enraged_Ape
I currently am on a Zantac regimen for that (and sleep on an upward slope), but you should talk to your doctor about it if it is a problem. My asthma has improved markedly since my GERD was diagnosed and treated.
