I don't remember who, but someone last night mentioned albino squirrrels
and I'd never seen one so I had to track down some pictures. They sure are cute little critters:

1. I've seen them from time to time. Cute.
There's a family of pure black ones living near me. They are beautiful, too. One ran up my boyfriend's pant leg one time!

4. Squirrels and chipmunks are so fun to watch when they're
getting ready for winter :) Industrious little things.

The squirrels on Boston Common are so acclimated to people they'll walk right up to you and eat out of your hand. I gave one some cashews one day and he followed me around the park for 30 minutes wanting more :)

10. We're fortunate
enough to have three black squirrels nesting in our immediate neighborhood. They're much more skiddish than the greys who will occassionally beg for some food.

2. Aren't there albino's in every species
they're just a genetic mutation, right?

3. That was me, I believe :)
Someone posted the pic of the albino black bear, and I mentioned the massive population of albino squirrels on my college campus.

They're gorgeous, and bold little critters as you can see in these pics. They come up to us and beg for food, and will take it right out of our hands.

See my post above about the squirrels on Boston Common. Not albino, but they are super friendly and will eat out of your hands :)

5. I could see the squirrels, and they were married...
but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

13. So now we get sensitive about rodent threads?
Good grief. I was just trying to be funny - because the reality is, squirrels ARE rodents, they're rat-sized, they can spread disease, etc. You can think they're cute, just like some people think rats are cute too.

Turn your uber-sensitivity down a few notches.

Sorry if you're too sensitive about being called on it when you try to crap all over a thread.

14. That's what we have here
mainly black ones though. My husband was facinated and bought a book about squirrels - it turns out that Eastern Gray squirrels are usually gray but can be black or white. And due to inbreeding in areas, sometimes a whole area will have mainly black squirrels or mainly white squirrels. But the book said the black squirrels are much more common than white ones.

19. LOL
I live in southwestern Michigan. I think most areas here have Fox Squirrels, but where we live there are a lot of the Eastern Gray squirrels. If they're black I think it's called "black phase" or something.

22. Interseting!
2 years ago my wife and I moved to New Mexico from Virginia, we have ground squirrels here. They seem to have shorter tails than eastern grays, but thats all I know about them so far.

One crazy sight is/are jack rabbits. I swear we saw one in our yard that stood 3 feet tall! I am not kidding.

Interesting difference between rabbits and hares.

Stay Warm!

16. Ours here are reddish
and they have little tufts of hair at their ears and a much bushier tail. Yours are very cute but I like ours even better. There are two who always steal our walnuts :) fun to observe.

Unfortunately in England somebody awhile back imported American squirrels and there are hardly any European squirrels left there. I hope that won't happen on the continent, too.
