Bowie's on Letterman and sounds horrible |
|
The song doesn't make any sense. They've got him miked wrong and he's got waaay to many backup musicians.
There's this thing called tuning. He needs to learn how.
Everybody needs to agree on what key they're playing in.
The piece is in four-four time. Bowie's dancing in six-eight.
The stupid long hairs over they eyes went out of fashion last year.
The piece ended on a discord that had nothing to do with the rest of the piece.
What the hell was that all about??

I'm watching Letterman right now on Tivo. Haven't gotten to Bowie yet. but he's my all time fave, and I'm tempted to smite you with my evil army of monkey-minions for even DARING to diss him.
But I'll watch him first before I send forth the monkeys.

I haven't heard Bowie yet...
But I WILL say that even though I've been madly in love with Bowie since I was 13, a LOT of his music doesn't "hit" me on first-listening. It takes a few times. But I'll weigh in shortly.
Watchin' Dr. Phil do his shtick now.

just listened....
His voice was fine. He was mic'ed bad, I agree.
The song itself sounded like it could've come off either of his last two albums, which is a mixed thing to me. I liked his last two, but nothing on them REALLY struck me, except possibly his cover of the Pixie's song (I forget the name) and Seven.
His hair (blond, hanging over the sides of his face) is a throwback to the late 70's, early 80's.
As for the song not making sense... if you mean lyrically - I'd say that the vast majority of his songs don't make sense in a literal way. I can point to a hundred songs of his that seem nonsensical. He used to take a Dada-ist approach to his lyrics, in which he'd pull random phrases/words out of a hat and use them as lyrics. He's always been inclined that way.
I'm buying the album tomorrow. No musical artist has ever been able to move me like Bowie... except maybe Beethoven.

8. Haven't heard the new one yet |

But if its anything like what he put out in the last ten years or so (Tin Machine and beyond), then perhaps he should hang it up. That stuff was pure noise, and not very listenable. And I was a big fan.
He became a tool for producers.
I think he tries too hard. He should just get back to basics and leave the industrial metal crap to the ones that know how to do it.
