Here he is, folks--Dimebag's murderer

DIMEBAG's Killer Had Quick Temper, Served In Marines

Some people who knew Nathan "Nate" Gale said Thursday that the heavy metal music fan had a quick temper…others said he was a good-natured person…"He was just a real gentle guy. He seemed like a big old teddy bear to me. I never would have thought what made him do that."
This was not a crime of quick-temperedness--Gale premeditated, laid in wait, and achieved his objective. If he were "merely" nuts, he would have shot at the entire band.

Gale, 25…served in the United States Marine Corps from February 2002 through November 2003, but did not serve his full term…The USMC would not give the circumstances of his discharge…

Now, consider this: According to a possible eyewitness posting on the Damageplan Web site message board, Gale was yelling, "You broke up Pantera…you ruined my life…What about Phil? He needs heroin money!" HE ruined Gale's life, so he therefore had the right to punish him? If he was exhibiting behavior like that in the Marines, no wonder they didn’t keep him. And I wonder if he saw any time in the Mideast.

Or Maybe Gale read the interview that appeared in Metal Hammer magazine last week where former Pantera singer Phil Anselmo described Darrell as a drunk who was jealous of the success of his side projects and who "deserves to be beaten severely."

While it’s true that controversy sells, that's the down side to badmouthing other bands in the press—a fan might turn into a fanatic and try to settle things for you. And what do you have to say for yourself, NOW, Phil—that you’re sorry Darrell’s dead, or that you aren’t?

5. What a whack job!
Phil left Pantera to begin with. This guy was off his rocks, period.

It kills me watching the news reports on this. Everyone of them are asking questions and making statements of how violent the lyrics to the songs are, and it that could have been the reason this guy went off. Ridiculous!!!

Granted Pantera had some very hard core fans, but they took out all their aggressions in mosh. I remember in 1997 I was in GA at Ozz Fest, when Pantera was setting up, these guys were already walking in circles waiting for the first note to be played. The mosh tornadoes started in three different areas on the floor. But it ended there. They did not lose their minds and pull an Artest after the music was over.

Blaming this crime (act of lunacy) on the music is ignorant.

7. Maybe he did go off become violence had become part of his psyche
But maybe it was his truncated military career that put it into him. I'd sure like to know if this guy saw any action in the Mideast.

19. Not a metal fan but
I agree with you about placing blame on the music. Thats just a bunch of conservative "family" oriented bullshit. This guy was one screwed up guy, simple as that. I must also say that blaming the Marine corps is along the same lines as blaming the lyrics, etc. There are many fine people around who are ex Marines. So lets just accept the fact this guy was totally nuts and probably would have snapped no matter what.

9. That clinches it - Not legally qualified to own a gun

Anything less than an honorable discharge from the military is a disqualifying event.

My question is: Who broke the law by transferring the gun to him?

He was not an Arab? I can't believe it. The right wing literature says only Arabs want to end our freedom.

12. This just in

According to Rolling Stone online:
...(Gale was)...an employee for a temp agency who was on medication for mental-health issues...(He)...was discharged from the Marines in November 2003 after less than two of the typical four years of service...

(Before the Damageplan gig, he was)..."hanging around trying to get in...He was... trying to talk to the members of the band, and he was shooed away...he "jumped an eight-foot fence...and headed straight for the stage...There were guys chasing him as soon as he got in...because he didn't pay."

So he WAS acting as judge, jury, and executioner. Combine his mental issues with his Marines background, and Gale may have elevated his plan into a military operation!

20. Oh this pisses me off
I love metal! And now that Dimebag is gone that is just one more talented artist that will no longer have the pleasure of listening to, well at least new material.

You know what is strange. If I were Phil or a lead singer in any band with whom I had broken up I would certainly make, at least, a short public statement in support of the deceased. I can understand the band being a bit tramautized to say anything but a former member of one of the best metal bands in the day to not say something is wierd. Perhaps it is just me.

RIP Dimebag. We'll miss you.

21. It's wierd that Artie Lange met him and hung out with him for the first
time 2 days before he was killed. Maybe it's not wierd, but as a Stern show fan it's interesting to hear about. Artie said he was a really good nice guy.
