Cool old photos
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 12:04 AM by ZoCrowes
I've been going through a bunch of old boxes in my parents basement trying to find some of the stuff from when I was a kid and I ran across some cool photos I had never seen before. Thought I might share em with you guys

This is my paternal grandfather. He died before I was born but my dad has told me stories and he seemed like a pretty cool old dude. Wish I could have met him. I think the picture was taken around WWII.

My mom when she was about my age (20-22.) Mom says this is the picture my Dad used to keep on his desk and then would knock it on the floor when his other girlfriends came in lol

Anybody else have some cool old pictures?

Sorry, couldn't resist. But she is gorgeous.

Your grandfather's pretty handsome, too. Can't leave him out.

Or at least that picture is. Hope you got her looks...

(Stifler's mom is a stupid American Pie reference I'm ashamed to know)

6. Those are terrific! I love old photos. Want to see some of mine?

That's my father. See that jug in his hand? LOL! He did a short stint as a moonshine runner which, I've been told, caused a huge rift between him and my grandfather.

Here's another of my dad (on the right) and his younger brother. They are posing here with some of my grandfather's mules. According to the locals around town, my grandfather was well known for his team of white mules.

This is one of my favorite photos. That little toddler is my mother! She looks exactly like me as a little girl, my oldest daughter and my youngest son. The gentleman is her father (my grandfather) who passed away before I was born. This is my only photo of him.

Another of my father (in the middle) with two of his buddies, the Sysney brothers.

This one isn't of family, but I did find it tucked inside my father's Bible. I have no clue why he kept it. The Okies here might find it interesting. This is photo from 1939 of the construction of the Grand River Dam.

7. Oh man
those are cool as hell! The moonshiner shot at the very top is VERY cool. There's just something about old black and white photos that adds character. When I visualize Woody Guthry songs this is what I see. Classic early 20th century Americana

8. cool pics

I love old pics like this, my Mom still has all of our old photos and I can spend a whole day just going through and looking at them.

I especially like the Grand River Dam Pic. My Brother's place is just over the hill and to the left a bit.

12. yeah...home computer...riiiight...i know what it really is though
that huge panel next to the man is a reactor control panel from a nuc-u-lar submarine...i didn't have to follow the link to discover this either...i have seen them countless times....the "steering wheel" on the 1st panel increases/decreases the ammount of steam sent to the turbines(raises or lowers the fuel rods)...the black switches on the 3rd panel control the speed of the water pumps inside the reactor itself...that round gauge at the top of the wheels is an engine order telegraph, which is how the ordered speed is set...the black rectangular shaped gauge at the top of the 1st panel is power output....the middle panel controls voltage from the turbines....heheheh....thats scarey...gawd, i thought i had completed a memory dump on navy stuff when i got out. guess old habits die hard after all.....

10. Once
I had to do a project for history where I invented a person's whole life history. I went to an antique store where they sold people's old photographs. I bought a stranger's old photographs. It kinda creeped me out because I didn't know where they came from or who they belonged to. I bought someone else's memories for a project.

I have lots of writer friends who do similar things -- find a photo of someone on the net and build that person into a character for their novels and short stories.

Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 10:54 AM by Skittles
he passed away shortly before Thanksgiving. It's possibly the first documented Skittles ass-kicking - he had called me FAT and I had smacked him hard on the arm. I am 14 months old and he is 11 months older:

27. You sound like my wife,
Only dress I've seen her in was her wedding dress. She has a couple of skirt/blouse ensembles for when she needs to be professionally dressy, but other than that, it is slacks/jeans, blouses/shirts. Doesn't matter to me, I'd love her no matter what she wore.
