Diamonds aren't my best friend
In fact, other than uses in technology, I think they're stupid. Can you believe how many people get killed over those god-damned things? Jesus H. Christ! Who gives a rats ass?

Don't buy any diamonds honey, you don't need to give me over-priced twinkly rocks to prove yourself.

4. will you marry me?
I totally agree with you. The DeBeers company is responsible for more slave labor and mining deaths in South Africa than, well, a whole lot. It's been a while since I read that book in Anthropology class.

A commercial told me I don't have to pledge to you my eternal and undying love so long as I foist a chunk of shiny carbon on you.

What gives?

They're carbon, too! Okay, carbon-60 maybe.

Nothing says "I love you" like Buckminsterfullerenes!

11. Nobody ever really knows if they're real diamonds
cubic zirconia looks exactly the same. It's kind of a weird little made up thing we do to place so much value on them. I just can't get into it.

14. agreed...I associate diamonds with shallow glitz
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 03:00 AM by McKenzie
apart from their industrial uses they are nothing more than geological rarities. If society falls apart, and the basic necessities of life become scarce, then all the diamond hoarders will discover how much their little bits of glittering carbon are worth...zilch.

Diamonds belong in the same category as hugely expensive gold jewellery and beauty contests...all of these irrelevancies attract shallow, unintelligent people.

edit: grammar

17. I think they're very pretty, but for ethical reasons, I won't wear them...
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 08:01 AM by Debbi801
I have no problem wearing a CZ though. :-) Same look, a fraction of the cost, and no one got killed or mamed mining it.

Every time I see one of those diamond commercials on TV, especially the one with the woman who gets the diamond and starts whispering "I love this man," I want to gag. Has it occurred to anyone how shallow this is? And what happens if the man can't afford to save 2 months of his salary for a sparkly thing? Does that automatically mean that he should be dumped? I find the whole thing absurd. Another reason why I won't wear one.

19. I get so sick of the diamond commercials
as if a woman turns into a drooling zombie upon receiving jewelry. There's a joke about that, but it's a bit raunchy....

Personally I would rather get a gift certificate from the Farmer's Co-op or Ace hardware. Give me a chainsaw, not diamond earings. A decent cordless drill or a nail gun, not a pendant. I refuse to wear diamonds until the industry cleans up its act.

When you're beautiful inside, all the jewelry in the world is a waste ;)
