Tell me what you think about these...
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 04:55 AM by fleabert

the scarf is about 6.5 ft long inc. fringe, and about 6 in. wide. I just started knitting and appreciate loving criticism! :hi:

the pics are huge, sorry, I kinda know what I am doing. :-)

Once I get good enough to do a sweater, I'll post it here and you can remind me of your request, I will try my best. Scarves are the limit of my talent right now, but I do love it. It's very relaxing.

I'd love to see what your dd has made! (I use imageshack.us in case you need a image host, they are very quick)

3. Looks nice and warm :)
I tried my hand at knitting one time because an ex-girlfriend made me :). I realized after a couple of days that I would never have the patience for it :).

Your effort is much better than mine. It looks like the stitching is a tad looser on one end than on the other (but that may be a trick of the camera). The scarf the same ex knitted for me had the same problem, but over time (a month or two of daily use in Mass. in the winter), it evened out. It looks good to me :)

5. thanks! You are correct about the tension,
I think my cast off is tending looser than my cast on, I hope this one evens out over time as well. The stitch I used made the whole thing curl up on itself at first (lengthwise) so I misted it with water and ironed it to get it flat. It seems to have worked, but it kinda changed the look of the yarn. It's not as fluffy as it could be.

I usually abandon hobbies after a few weeks, but I think knitting allows me to put my occasional OCD and anal retentive issues to good use. I have the extreme form of patience! My husband wishes that would translate to more patience in other arenas, but it doesn't, only in tasks like cleaning the floors, knitting, or filing paperwork...not with his behavior!

I plan on giving this one away, so thanks for letting me know it's not hideous, I am not a good judge after putting so much time into it!

10. Ah,
you reminded me of a saying I heard once that was funny, but i can't remember it...

it used the nickname of hooker for those who crochet and a nickname for knitter that is equally randy, but I can't for the life of me remember!

I crocheted a bit as a kid, but got stuck on the chain, miles and miles of chain I would make for the cat to play with!

11. Thank you! That link is awesome and was promptly bookmarked,
for when the time comes that I know how to do a blanket or other needed item! I can certainly churn out a few scarves after I finish my gift list. Thanks a bunch! (it will get passed on to my knitting MeetUp too)

9. Very, very nice.
I envy people who can knit. I have a problem with it since I am left-handed.

13. Thanks so much! Have you ever tried the continental hold?
I have heard from a few lefties that it is the same for everyone, and it's much faster than 'throwing' (the american style of holding the yarn and needles, with the right hand)

I saw some women doing it and it looked bad ass. Very quick and the only thing the right hand does is hold and move the right needle. The left holds the yarn and left needle.
