What was your office Christmas party like?
Did you have a good time? Was it boring? An exquisite kind of torture?

We had ours yesterday. A "White Elephant Gift Exchange" (which was ok). A movie trivia contest (our group won. :-)). Each of the groups in the room participated in a contest to build the best Gingerbread House (eh). There was wine (which I generously partook), beer, soft drinks and great food. I had a good time.

2. Ours has been postponed until February
because the company's president and family are going to India for a month or so! I think it's bullshit that they have to postpone our party for that. Who wants a holiday party in February? They don't give a shit about us since the sold the company last year.

They used to have great holiday parties with shrimp the size of small dogs and all kinds of great foods. And the desserts! Ah the desserts!

Oh well. I'm pissed.

3. Ours will be small and VERY liquid!
There's just 3 employees and their spouses/significant others, Paddy and myself. We all drink and are omnivores, so we've planned a dinner at a nice restaurant for all 8 of us.

:)

6. We're having our's at lunch today ...
... and the only thing I'm looking forward to is the deep-fried turkey. I'll be sitting in my corner munching away - avoiding the mega-schmooze fest at all costs. Luckily, there's no gift exchange on the agenda .. or atleast, I don't think so.

7. Hubby's isn't until after the holidays
Since I'm self-employed, I live through him. LOL!

They have their holiday party in January -- just too many other things going on during the months of November and December. It's a semi-formal event, held at one of the local hotels. Many folks get rooms because they like to get wasted. There is a huge dinner served (both vegan and regular), door prizes and entertainment following. Last year they did a casino night. In the past they've had hypnotists and there is always a DJ and dance floor.

8. It was swell.
It took a lot of coaxing, but we got "Two-Ton Tony" Arbello from Customer Service to play Santa. He didn't need any padding, but he doesn't have much of a lap either.

After we finished the second bowl of Mr. Harkness's "Secret Recipe Double Martini Punch" things really got interesting.

Mrs. Detwiler from Accounting got up on the reception desk and danced, showing off her Rudolph-the-Red-Nosed-Reindeer thong. You gotta admire a septuagenarian who can still cut a rug like that.

Donnie Ledbetter, from the mailroom, wowed everyone with his impressions of John Foster Dulles and the pope. Who knew he had such a talent?

We had a tender moment when Rhonda Milbauer and Mike Hixon emerged from the copy room and announced their engagement around 9:30. Unfortunately they had a spat an hour later and left with other partners.

You could have knocked me over with a feather when Mr. Blanchard told me he was promoting me to Division Head and doubling my salary. I was really bummed out when he told me the next morning that "it was just the whiskey talking".

Some complained that the company gifts were a little cheesy, but not me. My old key ring was really on it's last legs, so to speak, and the nifty new Acme Manufacturing one is much appreciated.

All in all it was a fun evening and a good time was had by all.
Pretty much.
Happy Holidaze!
;-)

9. Decent.
I'm good at putting up with schmooze-fests, so it wasn't torture or anything. The food was acceptable, nothing spectacular, nothing horrible (the desserts were good -- a sampler of tiny confections -- creme brulee, flourless chocolate something or other, a truffle and a key lime square).

My dress was fabulous, though. (The next time I get an occasion to wear the dress, I am going to get a picture.)

12. Ours was Yesterday - Like a scene from Chris Rock's movie
Head of State.

Big accounting firm, they chose to cut the groups by level this year. So the mailroom and all the support staff got a party separate from the execs. What a message that sends eh?

12:30 - buffet and drinks at a private club. Kind of stiff until the booze kicked in then it was dancing Admin Assts etc. Ready to retire secretary grabs goodlooking black guy from the mailroom - Beyonce blairs from the speakers. It was classic (for about 20 minutes).

"It's getting hot in here...."

home, I plan on drinking a lot by myself, then sending out mash e-mails to co-workers still stuck at the office.
