So I Applied To Work At *GASP* Wal-Mart and Target The Other Day |
|
Target has already called me back to come in for an interview. The Wal-Mart isn't even open yet, they were still putting up the shelves when I went in there.
I've heard Target is a better place to work. Plus I read Nickeled and Dimed and started laughing when I was filling out the application at Wal-Mart. I overheard the manager interviewing a prospective employee and remember reading the exact same questions in the book.
Questions like, 'Do you consider marijuana use to be just as bad as drinking a beer?'
'If you were with a group of employees and found out someone was fired for stealing, what would you say to the group' ect.
I'm glad I'm going to school and just looking for part-time work. I think I'd shoot myself if I had to do those type of jobs full-time and that was going to be my career in life.
I'm not even going to ask which place you guys think I should go to, since I know that Wal-Mart is like the Evil Empire around here.
So here's hoping my interview at Target next week goes well.

3. I applied at Target a loooooooong time ago... |
|
...like when I was in high school in like 1991, and they had a questionaire with some weird true/false questions on it too. I remember one of them was something like "I have never watched TV or talked on the telephone" or something.

6. That's a common strategy. |
|
It's used to weed out people who just answer true or false to all questions.

after 4 sections of the application you get to section 5 - a 60 question form that take a half hour to fill out.
With the dumbest questions ever.
Are you an optimist? Are you a confident person? Are you more or less confident than your peers?
Although there was one cool question:
What percentage of politicians do you think tell the truth?
I put 5%

5. I really hope you get the Target job. |

No offense meant to any Wal-Mart employees, but in our town W-M seems to "race to the bottom" to find its employees. Those who show any spark don't stay there very long.
I know sometimes a person just needs to have a job, any job. Been there, done that. I always had an exit strategy in mind, and kept on looking.

7. I hope you at least get to interview with Wal-Mart |
|
Get creative with your answers:
'Do you consider marijuana use to be just as bad as drinking a beer?' 6 of one, half a dozen of another....it's only bad if you don't have a good supply of both.
'If you were with a group of employees and found out someone was fired for stealing, what would you say to the group' Can you pick me up so and so on your way out...
Something to that effect. I think I may apply just to get interviewed.

8. Oh yes. Those personality profiling questions. Be careful of those. |

And they're the evil empire. They all are. They all chant "for people, for society" yet their actions say nothing more than "me me me!"

11. Target definitely seems more liberal |
|
I don't know anything officially, but I've noticed things when I shop there. Like, in the book section, they have more left-leaning books (read: anti-Bush). I've NEVER seen an anti-conservative book at Wal-mart.
Besides, Target seems cleaner, better stocked, higher quality merchandise, etc. And, the two closest to me have Starbuck's inside the store! I LOVE shopping there!

considering the Walton's (Walmart founder family) made all their billions in the Clinton years. Bill even met with the big guy of Walmart and included it in 'My Life'

And they both contribute to the downfall of American manufacturing by forcing American companies to shift their staff and labor to overseas markets (China, India, etc.).
Big chain stores are a blight on the American way of life, and defend themselves by wrapping their image in the American flag. On your next interview, ask the store manager what percentage of their goods are American made?

15. I'm so sorry you have to stoop to those places. |
|
I hope it doesn't last long.
I hate the Orwellian mindset of those places.
I avoid shopping at the Home Despot because of their stupid sign that says "If you use drugs, don't bother applying. We (illegally invade your privacy and) drug test all applicants."
If I ever have to work for corporate America directly, I really will leave the country. They are worse than anything Dumbya can dish out in terms of totalitarianism.

Hold out for the Target offer. I worked part-time at both, and Target is better overall to their employees. I worked at Wal-Mart for a grand total of 4 days and hated it. There was this weird, cult-like mentality among the employees. it gave me the willies.
