I really, really try not to judge others
And I also try to not get too concerned and caught up over the lives and dramas of celebrities.

But when I read that J Lo bought 2 wedding dresses at 320,000 each because she couldn't decide which one to wear - I really have to wonder how much longer the human race has to exist on this planet.

Forget that alone in a vacuum this is an example of human behavior at its most idiodically stupid, gluttoness, ego maniacal, depraved....

Now factor in the public, the press - this is a woman who supposedly was interested in having a movie career, which is based on people wanting to see her perform - after this thread if I never hear her name mentioned again I will be ever that much more contented in my life.

And while this is trivial, this behavior, this bottomless pit of want and seeking gratification is the same force that drives Halliburton, PNAC, BFEE, Pat Robertson, the California Recall.

Maybe being dumped at the alter will have a life changing effect on her and she'll become a phila...a philan...a doer of good deeds. ya think?

3. Garden variety narcissism on her part. Our interest in her
and the media's willingness to stoke it--break and circuses, bread and circuses. Though I have to admit they're not doing so hot on the bread part.

4. I totally agree ...
In Boston this morning, the teaser TV headlines were:

Bush to speak at UN
Jurors go to see crime scene
Ben and J-Lo get a license!

Gosh! Ben went to Georgia to get a gun license! Aren't those news people just stinkers!

6. speak for yourself
i'd never spend a million bucks on a dress, no matter how much money i had. i'd probably spend a million helping my family and friends though.

12. i'd buy a place to live...stash some for retirement
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 12:39 PM by noiretblu
i'd finance some friends to help them buy homes also. a few homeless locals could probably use some of that cash...i'd give them some. i'm a poet...i'd also give some grants to some struggling and talented artists i know so they could do their work. i'd finance the publishing of my own book, and publish some of my friends as well.
and, i'd purchase a space for performance and teaching of poetry and spoken word...i'd offer free workshops for kids. and...i'd like to start a non-profit to give seed money to impoverished american women to start small 'cottage industry' businesses; there is a program like this for women in third world countries. also, i'd support exisiting entrepreneurship programs, like Womens' Initiative in Self Emloyment (WISE). just a few ideas.

oh...and since i do like designer clothes, i'd take a few trips to dallas to the great outlets down there... the last time i was there, i got some beautiful designer sweaters for $10.00 each. and i'd score some joan and davids from their outlet store here. the last time i went, i got three pair of handmade shoes for a little over $100.00.

15. I'd even be okay with one dress - but TWO!
because you can't decide??????? that's what set me over the edge.

I think I saw some young kid star on some show trying to get her dad to buy her two Mercedes because she couldn't decide between the convertible and the SUV.

That's the "let them eat cake" kind of mindset that will lead to revolution one way or the other.

18. what bothers me even more
is the glorification of so-called 'celebrities,' who do little more than show some ASSets, and the enormous amount of resources that we give them for doing so. meanwhile...teachers, policemen, fireman, and other workers who actually contribute to the public good get peanuts. WE definitely have our priorities screwed up.

8. I agree. If I had that kind of money
the girl's enrichment program in my community wouldn't have to close, nor would the adult education center have to cut their classes. Unfortunatley, people like me don't get rich. I have all the crap I need. I don't think I could handle much more.

9. How many places can a person wear a $1 million dress?
And maybe it's like a car - - once you take it out in public once, it no longer holds its value.

17. It is appalling that you think everyone is as greedy as you and J.Lo
Which is what you imply by the "we would all do it." No, there are some people whose idea of living is a bit more spiritually based then blowing gobs of money on themselves.

Love of money is the root of all evil.

23. nope. Not me.
I drive a 10 yr. old car even though I can well afford a new car.

There's only a limited amount of money in the world. You can't just make more. When one person grubs up more than their fair share, you end up with a lot of other people who are barely able to make ends meet.

Soleft is right. The current state of our money & possession obssessed culture is not a good thing.

11. Reminds me of Two Things
1) Reminds me of the story I heard when Connie Sellica purchased her wedding dress for over 500k. I question how much of Christian you really can be if you are that careless to human kind.

2) I once was describing a visit to Hollywood CA to a friend of mine. I had told him that I had witnessed a scene where in one view I saw a man driving a 200K car with another man in the same view pushing a shopping cart with all his belongings. My friend astutely pointed out the following “It’s amazing that the humanity doesn’t just collapse like a black hole when we get that far out of kilter”

Thanks for your sanity check!

21. apparently there's something the matter with her
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 03:50 PM by amazona
I just ignore her. I'm glad Ben got out alive. I heard a nasty story about her throwing a fit in a restaurant. Ugh. You'd think someone who has everything given to them just for having a big ass would thank God every day for how lucky they were. Lots of people have big asses, and it gets them exactly nowhere. And, me, personally, I'm not even convinced her ass is that big -- I think she has scammed us all.

There was also an ugly story in Inc. telling about how she stole the name "Glow" for her perfume from a small entrepreneur who came up from nothing and ended up losing millions because of J-Lo stealing her name. Perhaps the entrepreneur finally won an injunction since it appears that the J-Lo product has a new name?

On Edit: I don't see anything wrong in judging others as long as I keep it behind their back. It's bad manners to be nasty to their faces, but as I'm never going to meet this lady, I have no problem with being judgmental. Enjoy!

It's much better to be dumped at the altar than to figure out after the fact that you have married the wrong person.
