5. Not at the same time.... |

TV causes brain rot. Just my personal opinion.
I think we need a revision on the rules on this board. TV threads banned, sex threads encouraged. Of course, I'm here at work in Qatar with the TV on all day (usually FOX News), so I'm getting a pretty healthy reminder as to why I don't watch TV that much back in the states.
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

6. Yeah I agree that in large doses it does. |
|
But I think anything taken to extreme is bad.
I like your idea about encouraging certain threads! I just like banning anything without a very good reason.
Sorry you're stuck with FOX... that's inhumane.

4. Good quote from Aqua Teen Hunger Force |
|
Frylock: I thought it was about time we upgraded to a new high definition plasma TV anyway.
Meatwad: But I thought you said TV was evil.
Frylock: Oh, it is. But we fuckin' need it.

how many actually could? Considering the number of tv threads we see here in this Lounge, inhabitated by intelligent, sophisticated folks as it is, I wonder.
Don't watch the goddamned idiot box myself but my sweetie is a stone cold junkie. If the boxes all went black I'd have my hands full for a few days.......fortunately she likes to read so she'd have a less odious fallback habit. But many others would have no alternatives and I'm not sure what their fate would be. Catatonia, psycho rage, who knows?
(tin foil hat optional)
What I suspect is that tv has much greater effect on people than any will admit. That the color, sound and movement provided have a deeper effect on our monkey brain than we know(or are being told). Seeing is Believing, you know.
So by all means, blow up the fucking tv's!

I'm not trying to be preachy, but good lord; there's a lot of them.

10. I've often wondered that |
|
People talk about terrorist targets. If they're really trying to 'wake us up' to what we are doing, or whatever, their best bet would probably be to get rid of whatever central TV creation-distribution infrastructure is out there. I often wonder what would happen to the US if there was no TV, overnight. It would certainly be interesting. I know I get left out of about 1/2 the conversations in most groups, just due to the fact that I don't watch it...
I think it can be a balance, certainly, but for a lot of people, it is a fallback habit/addiction.

12. I think I could do without it, honestly |
|
There are currently no shows I make sure to watch every time they come on or anything like that. However, that doesn't mean I don't end up watching TV. Most often, I end up watching it because I'm procrastinating; it is a very good aid for a procrastination habit. Mostly all I watch are various VH1 countdowns, music videos, the House/Senate in session on C-SPAN, and a few old sitcoms, but there's usually at least one of these types of programs on to keep me from doing what I should. I do think I'd be better off without TV, and it wouldn't be too hard to lose it, either... but it would be tough to voluntarily give it up.
Anyway, just kind of thinking out loud here... on my other favorite place to go when I'm procrastinating from working on what I should be doing (in this case, studying for the GRE...)!
