You know those bumper stickers that have the initials of European Nations, but are of American destinations? You know MV for Martha's Vinyard, BI for Block Island, VT for Vermont etc? I have seen the one that says OBX, and I have assumed it was for the Outer Banks NC. Can anyone confirm this or, if I am wrong, can anyone enlighten me as to what it stands for?

COOL! Funny story, a friend of mine asked me, since I was gay, and am active in the community if I knew what the BI sticker stood for, and I said "Yea, Block Island" He just stood there staring at me for a moment in akward silence as he began to blush he just said "oh," and we both cracked up. He thought it meant that the driver's were bi, but he was always too shy to ask. So all those yuppy parents with BI stickers on their car, he thought they were all swingers who were advertising. (To all the bi folk out there, I realize this is a stereotype, and that it isn't necessarily true; I am merely presenting his perspective)

3. Yes, it mean Outer Banks |
|
It's a way of giving our fair NC shores that exotic, European feel. LOL!

7. And they are SO RARE to boot |
|
I mean it's not like you see one on every freakin vehicle in Richmond or anything.
:eyes:
Look I love the Outer Banks but there is no need to tell people you've been there. If you live there fine but the OBX - VT - (private school symbol) thing is way over done.

The one that brews "Outer Banks Beer". Seriously. And it became so popular as the "Abbreviation Symbol" for the Outer Banks that, well, that's just what it became. During Isabel last Thursday I wore an "OBX" t-shirt in solidarity with Outer Bankers and what they were enduring that day--and afterwards!
I look foward to being able to drive down Highway 12 on Hatteras Island again in the not-so-distant future--and see people recovering from their losses. Remember, those weren't all vacation homes; many people have families which have lived on those Banks for five, six generations.

8. ... and, unlike european countries, OBX is, like, 'owned' |
|
by these Outer Banx people ... so, all the decals, t-shirts, the little refigerator magnet I have, etc. ... which are sold ... all that money goes to these folks ... if you look at the bottom of the "X" ... there's the Trade Mark symbol ...
