Poll question: The Most Offensive Hanna Barbera Character
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 03:27 PM by ronnykmarshall
Wilma Flintstone/Betty Ruble/Jane Jetson - Sexist stereotype of womyn homemakers that should rise up and smash their oppressive fascist husbands.

Fred Flintstone/Barney Ruble/George Jetson - Stereotype of working class men. Bumbling fools that should rise up and smash their oppressive fascist bosses

Mr. Slate/Mr. Spacely - The oppressive fascist bosses.

Boo-Boo - Stereotype of an submissive "power bottom" to the dominate Yogi.

Mr. Ranger - A filthy power hungry fascists who's only goal in life to oppress Yogi and Boo-Boo Bear, a gay couple.

Rosie the Robot Maid - An unrealistic image of domestic help. Has Rosie's ethic background ever been discussed? NO! A white washed racist statement.

Huckleberry Hound - An offensive stereotype of the dopey people of the south.

Josie and the Pussycats - Oh, don't get me stared!

Velma of Scooby Do - Stereotype frumpy, brainy lesbian.

Dino Flintstone - The original "Dino" was the Snork-a-sorus. This character was an openly gay animal. Dino was later repressed into a typical slobbering pet, who later fathered offspring in attempt to cover up his homosexual past.

1. You need help, you know that right? :)
LOL . . . This has to be one of the strangest polls in a long while :)

But, I'd have to say Scrappy-Doo who I didn't see on your list for being a pompous, narcisisstic fight starter, despite the fact that he knows damned well he would die if it weren't for Scooby and Shaggy :)

33. They're both stoners
Scooby and Shaggy, the pair of them. You already mentioned the munchies. But have you noticed also the way they always have the fear?

Typical pretty girl who can't take care of herself in a crisis stereotype.

17. Great poll
I love your poll and your reasoning behind your choices but Yogi Bear is the one who yanks my chain. He's nothing but a rip-off of Yogi Berra, the Yankee catcher. And Yogi Berra received no royalties for this commercial use of his name.

18. Not offensive...but what about "Jonny Quest"?
Here, you have the tender love between Jonny and Hadj..

AND the sweet, man on man action between Dr. Benton Quest and Race Bannon.

I point this out because it's clearly obvious that Hanna/Barbera was years ahead of their time in a plea for acceptance and understanding for these special kind of "friendships"

The first episode of Harvey Birdman on Adult Swim (and IMO the funniest) was Race Bannon suing Dr. Quest for custody of the kids...it was hysterical. :D

Cat: Wilma Flintstone?
Lister: Maybe it's 'cos we've bin in deep space too long but every time I see that Sherwood body it drives me crazy. Is it me?
Cat: I think in all probability Wilma Flintstone is the most desirable woman who ever lived.
Lister: That's good I thought I was going strange.
Cat: She's incredible
Lister: What d'ya think of Betty?
Cat: Betty Rubble?
Lister: (Nods agreeing)
Cat: I'd go with Betty but I'd be thinking of Wilma
Lister: This is crazy why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
Cat: Your right we're nuts this is an insane conversation!
Lister: She'll never leave Fred and we know it!

But there were a lot of French Canadians who appeared on Huckleberry Hound as the hefty villainous lumberjack.

I wonder if Bill and Joe had something against out great neighbor to the north?
