Ann Coulter-dirty hippie?!

Did anybody see VH1 last night? They have this show called "My Coolest Years" which is yet another nostalgia show. On this one, various celebrities talk about their high school years. Different episodes have aired like "In the Closet" and "The Geeks" and last night they showed the "Hippie" episode. Ann Coulter was on, talking about how she liked to follow the Grateful Dead when she was younger. Scaaarrryyy!!!!

I know a LOT of deadheads, many of whom did a LOT of acid, none of whom mutated into fascist McCarthyites. None of the female heads I now grew adams apples either :)

The very, very few that I ever knew were not nearly as right wing as Ann Coulter! Everything she stands for is so completely anathema to "hippie" values.

I wonder if she was a scary right wing nutjob back then, or if she converted later on? I have to believe that she became one later-it is just too hard to believe that she could have been "at home" in the Deadhead community with her kind of views! I knew Deadheads that were politically apathetic, of course. In fact, politics was never the primary focus of the community-but still the VALUES she holds are so completely different.

She said on VH1 that she had been to 60 shows.

I've met a few like that...they listen to the music but they just don't understand it...or the band...or what it means to be a "Deadhead."

Nobody who'd ever really been a Deadhead could become, as Richard Belzer put it, "a fascist party doll."

13. Sixty shows, though....

While that isn't a lot compared to some people, it seems like enough to indicate she was more than just a weekend warrior. But, I agree, she may have liked the music, and enjoyed the culture, but she obviously didn't really understand it.

I ,met a good number of TFBs (trust fund babies) who followed Phish had a lot of drugs and cash to burn. Politically, they were selfish libertarians if anything. I can see how one of them might get semi-famous and turn repuke. That said, most Phish/Deadheads were very liberal.
