I suffered so many third degree burns from the flames I didn't even dare try to start another controversial topic. :)

6. Too scary over there for me
I can't take being attacked for voicing my opinions on issues. Some of the people over there are vultures

7. Me either.
I've hardly been in there actually. May have posted once or twice, but not nearly like I used to.

They need to pass out straitjackets in there.

Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 03:55 PM by Carl Brennan
alot of it is just differing views.

 :(

12. Yeah. I think I'm just over it.
I peruse political information here and there, now, but I'm not sure I'll ever be so intensely interested and involved again. I am profoundly disillusioned by the willfull idiocy and blind hatred of the American people. Fuck 'em, I'm gonna post about music and Mike Hunt. :)

13. that's unfortunate ...
i really hate to see posts like this ... i understand that many lounge lizards hate some of the crap that goes on in the GD forums ... and there's plenty of good things to be said about the lounge ...

but GD, and some of the newer forums and groups, is where a lot of important work on behalf of progressive causes takes place ...

instead of leaving GD completely, why not use your ignore feature and thread hide feature and do what you can to help improve GD ...

14. I'm still interested in working for the causes...
Don't get me wrong on that; but the crap that's been going on there since the election has pretty much turned me off ever posting there, at least in the forseeable future.

It's all about hate, anger and division now IMO, and rather then wallow in that I'll go about my business and do what I can to make my own little backyard of the world better.

18. no problem ...
glad to hear you're still involved ...

It's all about hate, anger and division now"

well, it's certainly not ALL about hate, anger and division ... just for the record, here are a few currently active topics in GD:

food for oil
letter from Elizabeth Edwards
Rumsfeld's comments on armored vehicles
CSPAN2: discussion on vote suppression
United Church of Christ sues CBS and NBC

there are plenty of good threads in GD ... i have no disagreement whatsoever with those who can't stand "the bad stuff", but to give up on GD is throwing the baby out with the bath water ... if you're one of the good guys, we need you there ...

17. I had to stop
I got really drunk and bitter after the election. I think I pissed some people off with some shit I said, so I am staying the hell out of there and sticking to the lounge until things get back to some kind of a rational level.

20. I'm relatively new to DU and I don't really see the difference.
Of course I don't actually read every single post in the flaming discussions either. Maybe I should.
Curious though: What do the GD posters think of the Lounge?

:spank:

22. I do post...
But then I'm pretty sure I have a masochistic streak...

The problem with just leaving the GD groups alone is that it gives the wrong impression to casual browsers. Democrats in general are mostly moderate, easy going people, who pretty much like our party. I'd say the vast majority of us are more upset with Bush than we are with each other. And we generally see our troops as good people who have been put in a bad situation, not Nazi-wannabes. But there's a small group of people who've made the DU:GD forums their full time home, and they seem bound and determined to rid the party of anyone who doesn't share their ideological fervor. Their posts are flat out offensive to independents - exactly the people we need to win elections.

I'm uncomfortable with alerting posts: people have the right to their opinions. But we do need counterbalance, some small semblance of sanity there.
