What are you collecting?
with the exception of dust I just started collecting stuff from old closed down amusment parks. Right now I'm focusing on one in Utah called Saltair. I started with that one because it was used in one of my favorite creepy movies called "Carnival of Souls", not the remake but the cheesy old one. If you ever see pictures of it you'll see just how creepy that place was.

As for my collections, well I have too many.

I think I may have the largest collection of Red Wing Oomph dinner wear there is. Red wing sights list lots of pcs looking for photos, and I have one(+) of everything. I have service for 12, except for 4 salad plates, and all the serving pieces.

I did miss that thread, thanks for reposting it. I remember as a kid when Astroworld in Houston, Tx opened. We went all the time and they gave you these mini loafs of bread, we just thought that was so cool. I look back on it and think "damn we're just eating slices of white bread, shouldn't they at least put some meat on it?" If anyone remembers those little loafs of bread they'll know what I'm talking about. I know 30 year old loafs of bread won't make a good collectible but how many of us payed 25 cents for a smashed penny?

Erm.

85. Yes, it's older than I am
The stuff I collect is all vintage. That particular piece dates from the 1920s, and is even more amazing in person. That bead, called "wedding cake," is no longer made, so it gets harder and harder to find, at the same time gathering value, or so they say. I just think it's gorgeous stuff to wear, and, since I'm a NE United States professional leftie, I wear black all the time, thereby providing the jewelry with a proper setting.

Thank you again for your help.

Did you know glass is the most collected item in the world? I heard Dale Chihuly say that, so it must be true.

When I was 12, my Italian grandfather took me on my first trip to Italy, and, while visiting our family in Venice, I was taken to the island of Murano, where the business is beautiful glass. (Here's a good write-up about it: http://www.culturevulture.net/Destinations/Murano.htm)

It was amazing. My grandpop bought me a small strand of "millefiori" ("a thousand flowers") beads, which I still have.

After that, it was easy to get hooked. I've found some great items in some strange places in this world - a fair in Cornwall yielded the wedding cake necklace in my first post. I've found strands of Murano beads in Texas and in Shanghai. Now, of course, eBay is the best source.

You hooked yet?

:)

88. Great story!
I love the family connection - that's wonderful!

Actually, I collect glass, too. :D Years ago, a good friend brought me a souvenir from Venice - a rather large Murano millefiore paperweight. And that's when this compulsion started... ;) On my first trip to Venice I brought back millefiore paperweights for my sisters - the only way to eventually rid oneself of the glass curse is to pass it on to someone else! Fortunately (unfortunately?) I'm drawn to art glass of all types - and I collect it when I can.

Am I hooked on the Murano beads? Oh yes - thanks for sharing. :hi:

18. HELP! I need the theme song to Knott's Berry Tales!
Anyone have a clue? We used to go to Knott's Berry Farm every year as kids; it was pretty much the highlight of the year that we looked forward to. They used to have a sit-down, anamatronic ride called "Knott's Berry Tales" or "the frog ride" to us above the arcade.

They closed it down in the late 80's and replaced it with a Dinosaur ride to capitalize on the Jurassic Park phenomenon (Stupid Jurrasic Park! Maybe that's why I hate that movie!).

Anyway, I've been thinking there must be a recording of the song somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

71. Smart move...
I would do the same; offer to buy it back.
I have a friend whose dad gave her his Rickie
and she doesn't play...what a waste.
Sounds like your nephew will play it
so that is a good thing.
I am convinced people who don't play
their guitars are guilty of abuse and neglect.
My guitars are all very vocal about being played...
if I neglect one, I hear about it in the middle of the night.
Know what I am talking about?

89. There's a teasing line
How many times can hands be broken and still qualify as "hands"?

Why did this happen to you so many times?

(If these questions are too intrusive, I apologize, but I'm a novelist, and that's a great tease of an opening line.)

American Civil war currency,

Oddly, I have a matchbox car collection. My nephews love it and never lose my cars. I recently added two different years of lamburghini (sp?) and a lotus. I don't know why I collect them, I'm female.

80. Records
I focus more on 45s than LPs, but have shifted more to LPs recently since they're generally easier to find. I like all kinds of music, but mostly look for sixties/seventies pop-rock. I like a lot of pychedelic, "garage" band stuff, prog-rock... I like weird one hit wonders and like discovering "new" bands by just picking up obscure records (for cheap if I can!) whenever I run across them. I'm basically just a buyer and not a seller for now, though.

Also I collect a little bit of political memorabilia, especially buttons, and have been attempting (not very successfully) to build a license plate collection over the last few years.

100. I have kind of a funny donkey story
We were on this bus tour of Ireland and there was this young guy who was real funny, always getting drunk and doing the stupidest stuff. Maybe being on his honeymoon explains alot, anyway we visited this dairy farm and they had a donkey, every animal on the farm hated this guy so I talked him into petting the donkey. As soon as he got near the donkey it opened a can 'o' whup ass on him. He took it like a man and the rest of the bus people laughed for 3 days about it.

101. That donkey sense of humor.
Donkeys are so smart! That's why they are such a good democratic symbol. They let you know just what they think and love to push the vulnerable around one way or another. The day I met ours, he was boarded temporarily where we had our horses. We weren't looking to add another animal to our expense roster. He needed a new home, and systematically won over all three of us by sticking his head out of the corral, wrapping his ears around our legs and holding on that way for minutes, flooding us with love, and causing us to have one of those giant "SUCKER" signs fly up next to us, like in the Warner Bros. cartoons.
