1. awwww, GIRL?
My little girl (32 now) had one. We gave it to her for Christmas and she made me little cakes baked over that light bulb.
Still don't know how they managed that.
What a nice piece of nostalgia.
Thanks.

2. My mom wouldn't let me have one
She was convinced it was a dangerous toy and that I'd burn myself. I was desperate to have one, but I was never able to convince her. :-(

15. Mom wouldn't let me have one either
Her excuse: "If you're old enough to want an EZ Bake Oven, you're old enough to learn to use the REAL THING!"

This became something of a running gag/quasi-argument with momma and me. She focused on the very practical, and I could never get her to understand it was the idea of cooking a cake with a light bulb I found so amusing.

My inner child is sad, now.

19. My mom felt the same way
When I bugged her to get me one, she taught me how to make cookies in the real oven.

To this day, however, I don't know why she wouldn't let me get a mood ring. She wouldn't even let me spend my own money on one.

4. I got one a few years ago.
I moved into a property without a kitchen and my office thought it was hilarious so they gave me an EasyBake when they threw me a housewarming. I passed it on to my daughter - not saying that some nights I don't sneak it out and whip up a batch of micro-brownies...

6. Oven
YES! I was a little Martha Stewart. The chocolate cakes were my favorite things to bake. Little biscuits, too. Somewhere in my parents' house, they still have it packed away. Mine was a pale yellow!

7. Nope...
my momma taught me to bake gradually in the big oven.

I did have the Pillsbury Bake Set though that they made for kids. You could bake a tiny little cake in the pan and it had little sugar molds shaped like an elephant and a lion and a little plastic tube you could use for decorator icing and a little plastic thing that was a half teaspoon on one end and a teeny spatula for spreading icing on the other end. It was neato. :-)

Was pretty comfortable around it by the age of 10.

Still love to cook, btw.

we're teaching my 14 year old niece the same way I was taught. Over the years she got to do more and more to "help" til now she can be left alone with most recipes.

We made homemade chocolate chip cookies this past weekend. God this conversation makes me miss my momma. :-)

24. Out of my two teens...my son is more interested in cooking.
Always has been. Daughter's interest was usually only piqued when we were doing something kewl and fun (pretzels f'rinstance.)

Lately though she has gone vegetarian, and she is learning to find interesting recipes and how to cook them. Salads get boring real fast I guess!

14. Yes!
I think mine was a pink one. I baked those little brownie things in there. It was cool. My Mom also gave me a set of little girl plastic dishes so I could serve the little cakes on them.

20. I did
and when my oldest son was about 4 or 5 he wanted one but his was a Mrs. Fields or something like that. He and his younger brothers used to pool their monies together to buy new kits to bake. He's now moved on to the regular oven and an Emeril cookbook.

21. Damn I can still taste those little cakes in my mouth
My Parents didn't have that much money because my Mom was sick all of the time but she bought me an EZ Bake oven and I remember that chocolate cake like it was yesterday.

Do you remember the smell of your cake as it was baking?

It was heaven!

I use to make my Mom something in her regular oven after I got a little older when I was 11 years old. My Mom was a welder before she went blind and I would always have a treat on the table when she got home from work.

23. My sister had one - she burned herself on it.
She also burned herself on our thingmaker. Note to parents - no more high-temperature toys for sis.

I had a popcorn popper that used a light bulb - it actually worked! I didn't burn myself, though.

27. EZ Bake ovens were for wimps !
I had a toy oven with a genuine electric element! I had to use it on the basement floor. You could get third degree burns using it. I baked potatoes in it.

29. My little sister had one
I think she was a bit young to operate it (about 5). As her older, perpetually hungry brother, I was the one with the drive to crank it up and make some brownies. I made one good batch before I learned that it was much easier to get mom to make them for me, but we had fun with it that one time.

And then I told her that if she ever told my friends I'd made brownies in her EZ Bake, I'd frog her good. Meant it, too.

31. I had the sorry male equivalent: the Big Burger Grill
That thing took about a half hour to threaten little burgers with heat from a light bulb.

The EZ Bake Oven was so much easier to make a creative mess. Luckily my sister was three years younger and routinely swayed by an irrelevant errand I would invent, like checking to see if the fish were still alive. Then I would sabotage her EZ Bake recipe and dump in all the goodies from mom's spice rack. Some of the concoctions were damn good, but so random I could never recreate the best ones.

35. Sure did. Had a life-sized doll, too.
My mother desperately wanted a girl. My father went more for the cowboy stuff and chemistry sets. So, between the two of them, I can cook, I can diaper babies, I can shoot almost straight, and I can whip up stuff that'll stain every sink in your house for the rest of your life.
