If you're looking for an enlightened region to settle in, the unofficial DU region is Shagatopia. I encourage you to move your new nation there after you found it.

A note to old nations that no longer exist

If you already had a nation, but you go to the Nation States website only to find it no longer exists, it is possible to get it ressurected. Found a new nation, then go to the FAQ's and look for the link to the "Getting Help" page. Submit a request to ressurect your old nation under "Other: Response to Moderator." You should get your nation back with all its population instead of having to start completely over again. Though your new nation will be your "puppet.":)

Nations are automatically deleted for inactivity if they sit idle for 28 days. If your nation is in Vacation Mode, this is extended to 60 days. That is why your nation needs to be ressurected (if the last two paragraphs apply to you).

10. Go to the "World" link on the left side of the screen.

Do a region search for Shagatopia.

Shagatopia's regional info will pop up. There will be a link that says "Like what you see? Move your nation to Shagatopia today!" Click on it and it will walk you through the rest of the process.

and then visit the Getting Help page and file a request for the mods to ressurect your old nation. I figured this was why Shagatopia lost so many nations to inactivity; I included the instructions in the original post.:)
