2. Ramen has got me through tough times
Try mixing in some fresh veggies, like peas. You'll probably like it better.

3. It's all I ate for a time there in college.
It grew on me, what can I say. I usually eat it now by cooking the noodles, discarding the water, taking a pat of butter and dumping half the seasoning packet on top, then stirring it all up. Yumma yumma.

15. That's how I used to prepare them, too!
LOL - they were much better that way IMHO.

Sometimes I still get a craving and I buy a packet or two at the grocery store.

5. Ramen noodle soup
The salt content on that is so high I cannot eat it. I don't have high blood pressure, but my taste is very sensitive to salt. I try to make my own foods because of the high content of already made foods. When I cook I do not add much salt.

I'm amazed when watching the cooking shows, they just pour the salt in their foods. I'm the same way with sugar too. Just love the natural tastes of foods.

6. You didn't have *real* ramen
I've been on a kick here in NY going to all the real authentic Ramen restaurants--it's like comparing real mexican food to taco bell.

With the instant stuff, i tend to cook a little hamburger with some soy sauce and sesame oil, cook the ramen separately, and eat it as noodles rather than as a soup.

9. I know real noodle soup, pho, from Pho Pasteur in the Boston area
I cook my thinly sliced beef right in the soup and it's delicious but I thought I'd give Ramen a try----big mistake.

Never been to Taco Bell and chances are good that I never will.

10. Ah, Pho Pasteur
I spent ridiculous amounts of money on Pho there...I hear ya. It's honestly one of the only things I miss about Cambridge.

Real ramen is much more akin to pho than the instant stuff. The noodles themselves are a little different, and the broth is more flavorful, but it's not a bad comparison.

If you're still in the Boston/Cambridge area, there's a decent, though not spectacular, ramen restaurant in the Porter Exchange Mall halfway between Harvard Square and Porter Square.

11. I still am in the area and thanks for the suggestion.-----
Pho Pasteur is in the suburbs now,I go to Allston(I think it is the original one) or Needham.

What a success story this little restaurant chain has become.

13. And a very deserved one...
I can't find a vietnamese restaurant in NY that compares in either quality or value! I've been to the one in Allston too...though I think I have a special place in my heart for the Cambridge branch.

UGH... Ramen is very unhealthy IMO... You may as well unscrew the lid off a salt shaker and pour...

14. The cheaper the ramen the worse - I think Sapporo makes some tasty ones
The ones that I recall being 5 for $100 are absolutely gross. But Sapporo makes some much better tasting ones that are still cheap.

It's been years since I've eaten them, but here's what I'd do: boil the Ramen less than the suggested time, drain most of the water, add something less than all the flavoring packet, and let the noodles absorb a bit more water. That way they're more a noodle dish than a soup, and are more firm.

Probably the salt. I just don't buy the stuff since it will cause me to sit down and eat it.
