Gift idea needed for a guy into military history...
He's also into ancient weaponry, swords in particular. These are not my areas of interest at all, so I'd be very grateful for any suggestions you may have. Thanks! :)

7. Thanks for the welcome. :)
A book might be the best way to go, maybe a photographic or illustrated history of some sort. :)

2. Take a look around eBay
I bet you could find something truly unique that wouldn't cost you too much. Maybe an old Civil War sword or maybe an ancient Roman coin?

Assuming he has a siege mentality

Or, for something not completely different:

5. That's the thing, seems to be a pretty broad range.
He's a Nam vet, had relatives in WWII, recently finished a book about the Pelopenesian War. So I think anything from antiquity right up to modern times would do.

10. I had a flag flown over the capitol for my dad. They send the flag
and a certificate of it being flown. Since I'm in NC, my senator, John Edwards sent the certificate so that was cool.

My dad is retired Navy, big military history buff, and very hard to buy for, and he really loved it. One year I also had his name and picture added to the Lone Sailor Naval memorial in DC. He loved that too.

You can also request flags flown over the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor and other historical military places. Just Google it.

11. Book idea: "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer. It's the
memoir of a French/German man who served in the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front in WWII. Fascinating reading.
