Need Advice on hiring actors for a nude scene for my Video Composition
Need some advice. Okay, I'm getting ready to shoot a film short on digital video. Its a 6 minute short with no dialogue, just music.(its a silent short subject composition)Anyway, how can I go about finding 3 actors to do a nude scene?Let me give you the pitch:

I need 2 women & 1 guy for this scene. Its a horror short & 2 female vampires see 2 (a guy & a girl) as their food for the night. They attack & the enxt scene we see the guy & girl on their side nude. Now,the only thing revealed will be the girls side of her butt, a bare breast, & possibly some pubes.Same for the guy but his side butt & the same, maybe some brief pubes. This IS NOT porn or anything like it.Its gonna be a fast paced shot that will probably last 2-3 seconds. The next shot os gonna be of both the guy & girl on the ground exposing their butts for just a couple seconds.

The next shot is of the second girl who we'll only see her butt as blood drips down in (the vampire bites her neck as the blood flows)

I was thinking of posting a sign at some of the colleges.I even was thinking about paying the actors for this(not much though)For something like this,do I have to have them sign an agreement or something?I was hoping to maybe enter this in an online film fest like atomfilms.com or ifilm.com.

Any idias?

3. Contact an art school
I've taught college figure drawing classes, and usually all the professors keep lists of available nude models in the area (try photography instructors too). Good ones aren't always easy to find, but they are out there. Sometimes dancers from the local ballet are also open to it. Good luck!

6. Thanks!
Great advice. I'm in Connecticut. Possibly UCONN or Trinity or University of Hartford. Was thinking about a couple art stores. Its very awkward, but the person who's helping me with it thinks I'm being paranoid.I keep reminding myself that this is tasteful & not sexual. Its just weird going up to someone & asking, "Hey, wanna appear nude in a video I'm doing?" Scares most people away.I thought about asking friends who know & trust me(I think trust is the most important thing. This way they give you a more relaxed perormance & know they don't have to worry about it appearing on the internet or something)But I've used friends in other projects I've done before for my local cable show & they are either A) never serious or B) terrible actors!

Anyway, thanks again to everyone for responding!

7. Try not to feel weird about it, be professional
they won't feel weird if you don't. Most experienced nude models I've used are great at taking direction. Novices are self conscious, and tend to make everyone a little uncomfortable. Try to find someone with some experience if you can (and pay them above scale if possible)-you'll save a lot of time and headaches.

5. Since you mentioned colleges
ask in the art department - they typically hire nude models for sculpting/painting classes. They would be able to give you good advice, and probably refer you to people interested in acting for you.

11. Nude models usually get 20-30 bucks an hour
You will need a full release authorizing the use of their image in the film and may have to pay more for it.

But some actors will do it for the experience and no pay. If their faces are (Guaranteed) not to be filmed then they may be more willing.

If they need make up and more time and will be recognizable ask them if they want a "credit" in the film as pay (their name in the credits.

Or they may not. But 'experience" and exposure is usually the key thing actors want. But they will not all do nude. Life Drawing Models do it for the money and the "freedom" of it in an artistic sense.

15. You just need to let them know up front what's required
Are you in the NY metro area, put an ad in Backstage, you will get hundreds of headshots and resume's from people willing to work for free. But feed them and don't put them in any physical danger.

16. yes, they MUST sign a release
It's for your protection as much as theirs. Don't allow anyone to be in your films, nude or clothed, who will not sign a release.

I did still photography and once even, ahem, appeared somewhere on the planet in a publication of dubious reputation, and as a photographer I always got a release and as a model I always gave a release. The standard release should be somewhere on the internet; if you have trouble find it, private mail me and I'll look up the wording. It's been awhile so no longer have it at my fingertips.

You will save a great deal of potential trouble for yourself if you refuse to use anyone under age 18 without advice from an attorney. Photocopy any ID you are given. And if you have any doubts about the ID in question...get another girl. There are lots of 'em.

It is a nice gesture to pay $25 bucks but to be honest I never paid anyone. If you are going to make any real money off this, you should pay. In theory, you are supposed to ALWAYS give something of value in exchange for a model release, but $1 or a copy of the book or in your case the video is enough to make it legal. Tell the artists you will get them copies for their portfolio...that's probably all a college kid will want.

Good luck!
