Chicago -- you're great
Your responses were fantastic. You surprised me with the many responses.

So tell me, is the Mushrom and Melvins still there? There was also another wine and cheese place - down in the basement on or near Rush street.

Is Rush street the place of be? I'm from the 70's in Chicago... times do change.

1. Spend any time at Mothers on Rush?
See Off Broadway, Cheap Trick, etc. in their infancy?

Lived in Chicago until 1985. Great town. Look forward to going back.

8. It is the home of charbroiled hot dogs and
foul mouthed workers who treat you like crap. World famous. Do a google on it, loads of fun! Was there last time I was in chicago a month ago (stayed at some hilton downtown, not too bad, palmer house I think it was called). My boss had been talking about it for some time and went there at about 1am.

A riot - and real good food!

10. No, Rush street has quieted down a lot
Much more upscale residential and the property values are too high to waste on a bar or nightclub. Wicker Park, which was a scary rundown section of town in the 70s, is now the hot spot. Division Street between Ashland and Western is off the hook. You wouldn't recognize Hyde Park anymore, either.

11. We try our best
;-)

Rush street is pretty over and done with, it's pretty much only the tourist trade now. West Loop (on Randolph) and South Loop around Wabash are the hip upscale areas now and Wicker Park, Bucktown and Ukranian Village are the trendy spots for bars and clubs. With various pockets of cool in Humboldt Park, Lincoln Village and various other neighborhoods, of course. :-)

Another shocker for you, the rock and roll McDonalds on Ontario closed down last year.

13. McDonald's closing down is the good news
They're building one four times the size on the same lot is the bad news.

I am now going to brave the wind and get the cat some food. Before he starts in on my arm.

17. I'm not sorry to see it go either
I didn't realize that they were building a new one, I figured with that valuable real estate, they'd put up condos, just like everywhere else in the city. ;-)

Careful with that wind, it may be more dangerous than your cat's teeth. My neighbor's inflatable santa is doing quite the hoochie-cootchie. :D

14. Man, I used to love Rush St.
In the late 80's two friends and I went downtown one Saturday night with $20 each. The first $20 went to parking. The remaining $40 went for dinner and a round of drinks.

Fortunately I had brought my saxophone mouthpieces with me and we walked up and down Rush and State, bargaining with the horn players to let me try theirs. Each time I had to prove to them I knew what I was doing by fixing their horn for them, usually unsticking a sticky key here or there using a dollar bill.

An hour and three stops later, we had an extra $85 after splitting the cash with the players whose horns I had borrowed, along with two six packs that were left at my feet. I left when the cops threatened to arrest me. Somone had complained and called them because it was after 9PM!

I found out a month later at a family wedding that the offended resident was none other than my dad's cousin, who lives in Newberry somewhere around State and Oak I think. (It has been a while) She had run for Alderman at some point.

Pretty funny!

15. Rush Street is now referred to as "The Viagra Triangle"
especially by where it meets up with State. Old men cheating on their wives with golddigging younger gals. Thus the name...

Been living in the city for fourteen years now and I can't say I've heard that one. "Golddigging younger gals"? :eyes:

21. I know what the scene is
Reducing it to "golddigging younger women" is a little simplistic, don't you think?

I wasn't calling you a liar, I was merely asking you who calls it the "Viagra Triangle", as I have never heard anyone call it that before.
