my car was burglarized today:-(
i ride the train downtown and park in the "overflow lot" here. when i returned at 5:30, my back window had been smashed in and the stereo was stolen. i am so PISSSSSSSSED! light rail hires private security to "monitor" the lots, there were TWO of them and they didn't see my car?? it was parked close to the street, somebody had to have seen this! will i see any money from the light rail folks? i don't have comprehensive ins. on my car as it's 9 years old.

sorry, i had to vent :grr:

1. Ugh. I know all about that
I've lived in this apartment building for 4 years, and I have had my car broken into, and one of my tires stolen. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you get some kind of compensation from the light rail people. They were supposed to be looking out for this kind of thing.

2. Oh no!
I am so sorry for you. That really sucks. Bad karma to the asshole who ripped you off.

No, sadly, you probably won't see any $$$ - if it's anything like the Park & Ride lots here. It's happened to a lot of my friends, and it's really shitty.

I feel for you.

you reported it to the cops or anything yet. Last month I had fallen victim to what could still count as a "mugging," though the "muggee," or namely I, didn't end up getting hurt, since some asshole on a bike ended up snatching my bag and riding off with it. I also reported the incident to the police and I also luckily ended up getting most of the stuff that was stolen from me, back.

Am quite sure the police did nail the guy who did that and other than that, wasn't quite sure what else was happening with that case.

On edit We had to have the locks to the house changed and I had to make arrangements to have the lock to my PO box changed since the scumbag asshole also took my keys.

On double edit I found all I wanted in relation to that incident was (A) my change purse, that was also stolen and still missing back (if that was possible.) and (B) my life back (though I pretty well seem to have that.).

7. the sheriff's dept. was closed
when i went there immediately afterwards. dumb rentacops told me to leave, but when i called light rail, they said i should have stayed there and waited for the light rail police.

i'm sorry to hear about your experience. that's worse, imo, being mugged. i'm glad you're ok, and thanks for your concern!

13. It was more of a garden variety "bag / purse snatching" since
the asshole or arsehole just snatched my bag and rode off. Luckily I wasn't hurt and also got most of my stuff back.

6. Makes you feel violated, doesn't it.

I walked out to my car one morning, and the door was ajar. I looked inside and saw that the glove compartment was open. My cell phone was gone. There was a slash in my convertible top. I felt like somebody punched me.

The cell phone couldn't be used by the thieves, as it was locked. The stereo wasn't stolen because the face comes off, and the face was in my apartment. And I had comprehensive insurance, so I only had the deductable to pay. So for $100 I replaced the white top with a black one that I like much better.

My neighbor's car was also broken into that night, along with two others in our lot, but she didn't have a convertible. Her window was busted. She must not have had a removable stereo face, either, because that was gone, too. And the thieves weren't very good at stealing stereos, apparently, because they tore the hell out of her dash. And she didn't have comprehensive insurance.

My own troubles quickly faded. I felt so bad for her.

I'm sorry about your car, but it can always be worse.

On edit: I'm not trying to make light of this break-in, and I hope you get reimbursed by the people who were supposed to be watching your car. Having your car broken into really sucks.

11. I never removed the face from my stereo.
And then the building next door had some break-ins. So I started taking mine with me.

I got very very lucky.

14. I've since moved, and gotten out of the habit.
I live out in the country now, but it wouldn't be a bad habit to get back into. It's free, at any rate.

15. Had you been traveling and had the bastards or assholes also
stole your passport, you also would have had to go to the American consulate to get the darned thing replaced.

I bet this is no doubt good for cases involving travel or 2 words FANNY PACK.

16. This past Friday
about six cars were broken into at the school my 11th grader attends, and upgraded car stereos were stolen. It reminds me that when I think about getting a car for that kid to use, it will be at least ten years old, with a basic stereo system only.
