the greatest actresses ever, and very under-rated. A lesser actress would have made Nora Desmond look the way Carol Burnett did it--she pulled off one of the most difficult roles ever.
And, as she noted in her autobiography, she could "wear clothes."

Swanson totally deserved the Best Actress award for Norma Desmond.
Her bio is great - really one of my favorite silent film memoirs.
