Wingnuts: Ignorant, yes - and thieving cheapskates as well...
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 12:55 PM by Richardo
Get this:

Was working at my P/T job at the bookstore yesterday when a customer asked for "Shadow War" - a pro-Bush book from Regnery Publishing, about how peachy the war on terror is going. This is not an uncommon request here in the 9th circle or RW hell, so I look it up on the computer and it says we have about a dozen in inventory. So I walk the customer back to the section and - lo and behold, no copies. I check all the displays in the store and same story, no books.

So I called an affiliated store down the block and ask if they have any copies - he checks his inventory and says: "Looks like it, let me check the shelves." After a bit he comes back on the phone and says that, no, he can't find any either.

After the customer left I asked him about the discrepancy at both our stores and he says: "Oh, we tag a lot of right wing books, they just walk out of here if we don't. We tag every Hannity and Savage book, and I guess we'll have to start tagging this author too. Funny - this only happens with the right wing books." :eyes:

--------------------------
And no, I don't think liberals would go out of their way to steal a RW book just to get it out of circulation.

1. Why should anyone pay for RW propaganda
"Rightwing propaganda?!"
"You're soaking in it!" (as the old Palmolive commercial says)

How much propaganda do they need? Rush, Hannity, the falafel guy, 24/7 FNC, most of CNN. It is all out there free. Try sitting in a airport or anywhere where there is a public TV blaring - you'll get plenty.

2. The thriving Bush economy has taken a bite out of their disposable income?
Yes, you're right - liberals would not resort to stealing a book to get it out of circulation. If I'm going to risk arrest, fines, etc., I'm going to do it for a book I can enjoy, goldarn it!

:hi: Richardo!

6. Great story-all too true
I had similar experiences when I worked at B&N. We had to tag all of Flush Lardbutt's books when they came in or they would sprout legs.
And, yes, how about dem Stillers? :hi:

5. Doesn't surprise me
In my completely unscientific survey, I've found in the six years that I've worked in a grocery store in a very rich town that the people most likely to raise a fuss about a 2 cent discrepancy in price, or who are most likely to try to get something for nothing, are the ones who are obviously right wingers. I know most of my regulars well enough to have a good idea of their politics and I see it time and time again.

On the other hand, my liberal customers tend to be the ones who contribute to any charitable cause we happen to be supporting, who express concern over the fact that they haven't seen one of the checkers in awhile - "where's Gloria? Is she okay? I haven't seen her lately." and who actually say "thank you."

7. Liberals know that, if they were caught trying to steal a book
they actually would be arrested.
