DEATH for Peterson (jury recommends) |

You probably won't hear much about this on the way home or on cable news. I thought you might want to know. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=1&u=/ap/20041213/ap_on_re_us/laci_peterson

...hard to track. But I do like to think that at some point in my life, the death penalty will be eradicated.

2. although he does deserve his death... |
|
I'm against the death penalty. It's immoral for the state to sanction murder, it doesn't make sense from crime prevention and saving money perspectives, and it just fulfills a Biblical need for revenge in this Christian fundamentalist country.
I'd rather sentence him to a life in hard work in Alaska snowlands, building something for society. More productive, and he suffers more...death is too easy.

he was a turd salesman (family business)from San Diego.
Because it didn't really have any relevance in the national spotlight it got the coverage that such stories usually do. I just thought you might like to know.

Too bad the media refused to give it the airtime it deserved.

9. For the death of his wife and 'unborn son named Tyler...' |
|
Okay, I don't think it was Tyler but NBC had said the rest of the quote, word for word. (forgive me, my lack of short-term memory)
So why does he deserve death and yet Charles Manson didn't?

11. "Connor"-how about " for the murder and mutilation of his pregnant wife" |
|
Oh gee that kind of gives a different air about it than if they mention the name of an unborn child. This one isn't too hard to figure out.

22. The unborn child had to figure into it for those wanting the death penalty |
|
California law only allows for the death penalty under "special circumstances." Murdering Laci alone wouldn't have done it. The conviction for second-degree in the case of the unborn baby is what gave them the opportunity to go for the DP.

20. Manson did get the death penalty. |
|
But the death penalty was declared unconstitutional in 1972. Manson and his followers had their sentences changed to life in prison.

12. I never really followed or cared. Somehow national politics meant more... |
|
Still, now that the savag public are cheering for the death penalty for what sounds like a crime that's nothing compared to the likes of Charles Manson (please edify me, folks!), I may as well find out more... shallow as I must now be. :eyes:

they spend pretty much every single show talking about this bullshit, but somehow can never find the time to report on actual news...maybe THAT'S why they just regurgitate WH press releases, cause they are so busy covering scotty and his who gives a fuck trial

No wonder the world hates us. Shrub just gave them a more immediate reason to take to the streets about it.

It's completely barbaric. It is not a proven deterrent, and doesn't provide for any rehabilitation (two supposed goals of criminal punishment). The only reason for using capital punishment is retribution, plain and simple.

23. Pity. -- When He's Executed His Punishment Is Over. He Won't Care Anymore. |
|
Because he'll be dead. He will cease to exist and his punishment will have ended prematurely. When he COULD have been CONTINUALLY punished for MUCH LONGER if he were given life in prison.
Or... even if you believe that one's soul goes on after physical death... then supposedly all he needs to do is ask for forgiveness and accept the Lord-Jesus-Christ-As-His-Personal-Savior... and (ta-dah!) he gets in Heaven. Sweet deal, huh?
Instead of rotting jail, he gets to go to heaven. Or... instead of rotting in jail, his punishment ends "early" because he simply ceases to exist. He ceases to care. Dead men don't care.
Meanwhile... others who have committed LESSER crimes serve their full sentences (which is likely LONGER) than the number of years Peterson has remaining.
The death penalty is not a deterrent. It's nothing more than revenge for the living.
Truly pathetic.
