I can think of only two TV shows that really tried to do something different and bold......."Mary Hartman, Mary Hartmann and Twin Peaks". And Ernie Kovaks is even before my time or we didn't own TV at the time. One or the other.

Why did he have to die so young? There's a 2-DVD set of his old shows and it is so twistedly funny that it makes his death even more tragic. He totally "got" TV's potential to be funny and intelligent. And "Twin Peaks" is definitely in the same vein -- total appointment TV, ground-breaking, etc., etc. I miss it ...
