Saw Molly Ivins this evening.
She spoke at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri (just outside Kansas City) to an overflow crowd that was about half students, half middle-aged and older adults. She got two standing ovations and was warm and witty.

She's an absolute American Treasure.

2. I love Molly.
It was her book and Begala's that confirmed my suspicions about shrub before election 2000. I knew nothing about jr. other than he was the son of G.H.W. Bush who we had just gotten rid of 8 years earlier.

6. Darn, missed it..!
Didn't see it advertised anywhere.

(Then again, I don't read the local paper much, or watch the local news either..)

7. I have no idea where it was advertized.
I found out because a friend who's connected to one of the groups who sponsored her got a block of seats set aside for "UMKC Women's Group".
When I bought her book this morning the clerk at Barnes & Noble said she'd just found out Molly was speaking from a customer who earlier had bought three books.

Probably the most interesting thing she said was in answer to a question about Hillary running. Molly said, while she was deeply afraid of making a self-fulfilling prophecy, that she was genuinely worried that if Hillary ran, she'd be assassinated. The hatred against the Clinton's, Hillary in particular, is that deep.

8. Well.. Got Al Franken Tickets..
For his October 2nd KC appearance, from Rainy Day Books.

That should be good.

10. Yep, I'm going to see Al Franken also.
Those tickets have now sold out. No surprise.

The people at Rainy Day Books have apparently tried to book Molly Ivins, but don't seem to be able to schedule her. I wonder why.

I have already told one employee there that if they get Ann Coulter in (which he apparently would love to do) I'd personally picket the event. And I probably go to more of their events than any other customer.

I actually missed one of their things last night (Leonard Shlain, "Sex, Time, and Power") even though I picked up the tickets about three weeks ago, which means I paid full price for the book, because it took about half a second to decide Molly was more important.

9. I heart Molly, too!
She came to my college once (her alma mater) and I got to hear her speak. She was so awesome.
