Poll question: How much do you fight with your significant other? |
|
One of our collegues brought this up in a post, and I'm wondering: How does fighting fit into your relationship?

Live together and work together (we own our own business) We've been together for 7 years. The fighting keeps us honest. It's more like debating anyway! ;)

I've been with my partner for eight years, and I think we've had three fights - but I've never had a "screaming" fight, like you see on TV. Ours are more cerebral, I guess - lots of pointed comments and confrontation about things. Pretty painful, but always felt they left the relationship better off.

how how you define "fight". My family is small, introverted and quiet. My wife's is large, extroverted and LOUD. What I call a "fight" she calls a loud discussion.

11. Fighting doesn't fit in. |
|
Because we don't fight. We're away from each other almost all the time (a long distance relationship). We may disagree on things, but there has never been an argument or fight. I cherish the time we spend together, and I hope Doug does, also. I don't want to spend the times we are together being mad at each other.

about silly little things. Big fights (screaming matches) happen about once a year. The former are no big deal. The latter get me upset for a day, then I get over it.
We are never verbally abusive toward one another, either. There is cursing, but it's more of the "FUCK! You aren't listening to me!" variety than the "FUCK YOU!" variety.

I've been married for 19 years, and we've covered the whole range! Now it's more of the rarely category. I think the longer you're married, the less you sweat the small stuff. Also, you become so much like each other, there are fewer misunderstandings!

Now, after almost 25 years, the answer is never. When we were younger, and less integrated as a single entity, is was more. But, it was seldom bad and never at the breaking point.
As we got older, we ended up on the same page about nearly everything so darned often that there is really nothing to fight about. The Professor
