The deal in London during certain heavy traffic hours it was going to cost something to travel during those times. Did that work out or get the boot ? Any UK folks here ?

1. Five quid to drive into town after 6.30am and before 6.30pm....
police cameras to snap up everybody's numberplate and match it up against database of those who have registered as having paid.

Seems to have cut down rush hour traffic by 15-20% but is widely despised by shopkeepers as eating into their profits and resented by payees who don't see why members of parliament should get off paying.

The scheme has revealled the huge problem of car cloning in London - lots of complaints from elderly spinsters in Abergavenny who have never driven further than their local post office and suddenly found themselves busted and fined for driving in central London without paying the congestion charge.

Ken Livingstone, London's mayor, now wants to extend the scheme to the access roads around Heathrow airport.

3. The Congestion charge?

The press reported it as a great success, but I can't comment personally as I tend to avoid travelling by road in London as much as possible. The London Underground is a wonderful thing and London's roads are a nightmare either way.
