"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Trailer
http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=7019

Just my opinion, but the trailer makes me leery of the movie. Johnny Depp looks weird--but not in an interesting sort of way.

Well, I guess we'll know for sure next July.

1. Oh, my
That looks wonderful.

Of course, I'm one who loved the book, and found Gene Wilder the only really good part of the first film.

2. It's a Tim Burton movie
I'm sure the special effects will be excellent, but it will also contain so much of the black humor that the story is famous for, and that Burton will surely exploit. I want the movie to be good, because if it isn't he will have screwed up one of the finest children's stories of all time.

7. That is almost
exactly what my response was going to be except to add Danny Elfman. Yes, this is a movie I have been looking forward to.

11. too late to edit, but want to adknowledget the fact that
the title should indeed be 'charlie' and not 'willy wonka' and the chocolate factory. I had forgotten that. I would also love to see a remake of the Glass Elevator sometime soon!

What a wonderful thing this will be!

5. I didn't care for this trailer either. Looks gratuitously weird/creepy
and gratuitously "hyperenergetic" even though Tim Burton movies are kinda like that anyway. Like a Jim Carrey vehicle on steroids AND meth.

13. But the book was weird and creepy....
...That schlock that Gene Wilder did decades ago wasn't anything like the book. Charlie doing a Sammy Davis Jr. "Candyman" number - pul-lease.

Bring it on Tim Burton - I'm looking forward to seeing the Real "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" on film!!

8. 2 things they got absolutely right this time
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 09:28 AM by lazarus
I just read the book again (I had forgotten how much fun it is!).

Two things right in this film that weren't right in the earlier version: the boat is essentially a Viking long ship made of pink candy, with a bunch of Oompa-Loompas rowing. And the Oompa-Loompas are supposed to be quite small, less than knee-high, which they appear to be in the brief glimpse one gets of the boat from above.

They appear to have changed Mike Teavee to be not just addicted to television, but video games; this seems a reasonable update.

The one thing they got wrong: Wonka's supposed to have a goatee. But I don't have a problem with that.

On edit: I forgot the most obvious change. The title is right this time.

9. I cannot wait for this to come out...
I love Johnny Depp and I am anxious to see what he does with the role. The trailer peaked my interest even more. Although, now I have that "willy Wonka, Willy Wonka" tune running through my mind. LOL

10. It'll be different. I'll have to try not to compare the first "Chocolate
Factory" film to this one, or Depp to Wilder. Apples & oranges.

But Tim Burton & Roald Dahl! :wow:

14. I didn't find this creepy
But god if that wasn't an obnoxious song in the background.

I like Depp... and I like Burton.. but I'm getting sick and tired of remakes... and I thought from the beginning they should of left Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory alone (Granted I know I know, this is called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

Maybe I'll be wrong and it'll be a good movie, I mean since I'll end up seeing it because, I love going to the movies. However, that trailer hasn't really done anything to make me more optimistic......

16. to be clear...
this is not a remake of the '73 movie. this is a new adaptation of the book. and finally, hopefully, a proper one. the fact that they got the title right is encouraging.

20. But you have to admit
they seem to have taken the first movie into account. You can see that in the visuals. So really, its an adaption of both.

21. Yes I understand that....
I know that this is the correct title... and that this is a "new adaptation"
But still... I enjoyed the Willy Wonka one (Although apparently the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory didn't)..... and just hope this turns out better than Tim Burton's "revision" of Planet of the Apes.

18. The remake epidemic in Hollywood
has to do with the producers getting even more of the profits from the movies and not having to share with the writers. Plus, if it did OK the first time, they seem to be more willing to dump funds into it for time two.

BTW, Aniston and Pitt are the owners of Plan B, the production company that's doing this film. Just in case anyone cared.
