1. Sing it!
Chicago, chicago that toddling town
Chicago, chicago I’ll show you around - I love it
Bet your bottom dollar you’ll lose the blues in chicago
The town that billy’s sunday could not shut down

On state street that great street I just want to say
They do things that they don’t do on broadway - say
They have the time the time of their life
I say a man and he danced with his wife
In chicago, my home town

4. It used to be the coolest place on the planet.
All of it. Friendly live-and-let-live people. Cool cops. Beeyoutiful women. Great food. Cheap drinkin'. I loved to go there, on tour and hated to leave.

Now? It sounds like it has become a huge insane asylum. I don't ever want to go there again.

26. I would kill to ride the Brown line
Just rated the best and most frequent CTA service in the city because of those damn yuppies. I live in Humboldt Park, so I get the shitty Western Avenue bus. It takes me over an hour and two buses to get to work. I'd gladly suffer the yuppies if I could get to work faster and in a less broken down manner.

30. The whole city's gentrified
There is no escaping Mayor Daley and his great tree planting, condominium building schemes. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to tell the drug dealers on the corner, they're still working hard to make my neighborhood the heroin capital of the midwest.

i remember riding rush hour ravenswood trains in 94, 95 (back when they had a/b skip stops). VIRTUALLY EMPTY after the clark junction (belmont ave.).

weird.

humboldt park had a douglas park/logan square spur that was elevated at one time. there are no traces of this line anymore.

That's actually considered Logan Square. Humboldt Park pretty much ends at North Avenue. The closest el stop to me is in Wicker Park, over a mile a way. :-(

Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of people, too
People who smile at you

And each time I roam, Chicago is
Calling me home, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
It's my kind of town

My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of razzmatazz
And it has all that jazz

And each time I leave, Chicago is
Tuggin' my sleeve, Chicago is
The Wrigley Building, Chicago is
The Chicago Cubbies, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
It's my kind of town

So get your butt back here and join us! :P

50. We have to compromise somewhat
As DUers come in many ages, shapes and sizes, and have many different ideas about what makes a good bar. Until last year, I used to be in the business (bar biz, that is), so I've been relatively successful in suggesting places that meet with approval from all sides. Of course, suggestions are always welcome.

Though, I must warn you, many popular dives have bit the dust in the past few years. Even Tuman's has gentrified and now serves food. :scared: Daley's been playing hardball with the liquor licenses of certain establishments.

60. Not that young
And I'm quite west, thank you. Any further west and they'll be selling crack out of my garage (if they aren't already, I haven't been home for hours).

Enjoy those dives while you can. They're getting fewer and fewer and if Daley gets his wish, will disappear within the next decade. Even the Old Town Alehouse charges $5.00 for a beer to now. Zack's was bulldozed two years ago. Tuman's was sold and got a facelift.

At least you can still get $1.50 PBRs at Cal's (for now, anyway).
