Four weeks and counting - Al Franken #1 on NYTimes bestseller |
|
and nary a (+) next to his name.
#1 - LIES (AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM), by Al Franken. (Dutton, $24.95.) Four weeks out all at #1 and nary a bulk order!!! BTW, Dr. Phil is on the Advice best seller list which is why Franken wasn't bumped.
#2 - WHY AMERICA SLEPT by Gerald Posner. (Random House, $24.95.) This book has been out 2 weeks and a jump to #2. This is the ONLY neo-con book to make the list without the (+) next to it. I still won't buy it but I'll give Posner a slight amount of kudos to being the only neo-con book writen in ages that sold on it's own merit and not with the benefit of bulk orders.
#4 - THE GREAT UNRAVELING by Paul Krugman Welcome to the list Paul! Looking forward to getting your book and enjoying it! :hi:
#6 - LIVING HISTORY by Hillary Rodham Clinton. Fourteen weeks and folks STILL want to buy this book - one book at a time :D
#7 TREASON by Ann Coulter. (+) Twelve weeks on the list and Scaife is buying your book one Storage Center Rental full at a time
#10 LOSING BIN LADEN, by Richard Miniter. (+) I have a feeling that single book buyers aren't buying his crap about "Blame Clinton" for everything. But you can almost bet that this book will be bulk purchased for awhile just so folks actually think the guy might have a clue (which he doesn't)
#12 THE CASE FOR ISRAEL, by Alan Dershowitz. Knowing Dershowitz he's probably bulk buying his own book  (+)
#13 THIEVES IN HIGH PLACES by Jim Hightower. The only progressive book being bulk order. Who's doing this??? This book would sell without the big orders??!! (+)
#15 BIG LIES by Joe Conason. - Another Great book about the lies in today's media and political arena.
#18 STUPID WHITE MEN by Michael Moore - This is how you write a book. At this point, being over 60 weeks on the best seller list, I think this book should be required reading in schools. Congrats Michael, can't wait for your next book to come out - that'll be the one to knock Al off the top spot!!
Final Count for the Top 20 on the NYTIMES: 6 Progressive books (One with a + next to it) 3 Neo Con books (Two with + next to them) (note: I don't know where Deshowitz's book falls so he's not counted)
New Books out and available! Bushwhacked: Life in George W. Bush's America by Molly Ivins, Lou Dubose
Books to look foward to on the list:
October 7th, 2003 - Dude, Where's my Country? by Michael Moore
Announced by no Release Date yet: Our Flag, Too: The Paradox of Patriotism by William Rivers Pitt (Will, when will we see the book!) The Republican Noise Machine: Right-Wing Media and How It Corrupts Democracy by David Brock
LynneSin's recommended book of the Week The Soft Cage: Surveillance in America from Slavery to the War on Terror by Christian Parenti: This book covers the history of survelliance in America and how it threats individual privacy

3. I finished the Soft Cage a few weeks ago |

It talks about how our country has a history of survelliance and how it's really used just to surpress people. The whole section about how Slave Owners kept track of slaves during pre-civil war times was quite excellent and put a new light on our Country's trouble past with slavery. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0465054846/qid=1064419966/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/102-5452660-5212163?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

2. I wonder if Hightower's book is bulk ordered by Rolling Thunder? |

 Maybe, as a fundraiser, they buy his book in bulk and sell them at the RT events.
Edit - apostrophes are my friend - and I CAN spell, really!

4. Thanks for all the info and analysis, Lynne! |

I loved Al Franken's book, and I've already quoted from it in debates with right-wingers.
I'm very much looking forward to Moore's and Brock's new books, as well.
