Hey Mr. Pinochet, you've sown a bitter crop. |
|
Posting these Sting lyrics ("They Dance Alone") as it seems that Pinochet will (hopefully)finally be held accountable for his crimes against humanity.
For you, Chileans:
"They Dance Alone" by Sting
Why are there women here dancing on their own? Why is there this sadness in their eyes? Why are the soldiers here Their faces fixed like stone? I can't see what it is that they dispise They're dancing with the missing They're dancing with the dead They dance with the invisible ones Their anguish is unsaid They're dancing with their fathers They're dancing with their sons They're dancing with their husbands They dance alone They dance alone
It's the only form of protest they're allowed I've seen their silent faces scream so loud If they were to speak these words they'd go missing too Another woman on a torture table what else can they do They're dancing with the missing They're dancing with the dead They dance with the invisible ones Their anguish is unsaid They're dancing with their fathers They're dancing with their sons They're dancing with their husbands They dance alone They dance alone
One day we'll dance on their graves One day we'll sing our freedom One day we'll laugh in our joy And we'll dance One day we'll dance on their graves One day we'll sing our freedom One day we'll laugh in our joy And we'll dance
Hey Mr. Pinochet You've sown a bitter crop It's foreign money that supports you One day the money's going to stop No wages for your torturers No budget for your guns Can you think of your own mother Dancin' with her invisible son They're dancing with the missing They're dancing with the dead They dance with the invisible ones They're anguish is unsaid They're dancing with their fathers They're dancing with their sons They're dancing with their husbands They dance alone They dance alone

1. I see your Sting and raise you one Clash on the same subject: |
|
:hi:
Oh! Mama, Mama look there! Your children are playing in that street again Don't you know what happened down there? A youth of fourteen got shot down there The Kokane guns of Jamdown Town The killing clowns, the blood money men Are shooting those Washington bullets again
As every cell in Chile will tell The cries of the tortured men Remember Allende, and the days before, Before the army came Please remember Victor Jara, In the Santiago Stadium, Es verdad - those Washington Bullets again

2. I've never heard that song. |
|
I've never really listened to the Clash. They're spot-on in their lyrics, though.
:-)
The Clash is 80's, right? or 70's???

3. Late 70's early 80s - this song is from Sandinista - it's |
|
beautiful and it's (sorry to say) how I learned of Victor Jara. Joe Strummer had a Chilean saxophonist in his original band, the 101ers which is how he knew of the subject. If you can download or realplayer the song, it's well worth it.
