5. I hear you
I might be about your age. But I had a musical rebirth from the late 80's to the mid 90's that I am already missing.

I saw Hendrix, live, just for some perspective.

9. It was at the Field House at Oklahoma University in Norman
The old basketball building. The acoustics and lighting were so terrible that when Bloodrock came out to open the show (I found out later), I was asking "Which one is Hendrix?"

When Jimi finally took the stage, he started talking on the microphone so fast, almost in gibberish, something about "a bunch of goddamn rednecks."

I was but 16 or 17 and the sound was so bad it was simply a roar. If you ever heard a live band in a gym or armory, you know what I mean.

But I was there!

8. time goes way too fast
one of my best friends fell on some hard times this year and stayed with me from march-june...he's out in california now, haven't seen him since july, but i just talked to him tonight and we reminisced on all the stupid and fun things we used to do when we were living together...it feels like so long about but it's only 6 months!

long story short, i know exactly what you mean

though for reference sake, i was in grade school in the early 90's

11. Saw them for the first time...
just this past September at the Austin City Limits Festival. My personal best show of 2004! Best of 2003 was Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in that same Austin at a place called Stubb's Bar-b-cue. But I don't reside in Austin. I do, however, live a scant 14 hour drive away in nearby New Mexico. Always worth the trip.

20. Doolittle!
In my humble opinion, Doolittle is the Pixies best album -- I never get tired of listening to it. Maybe because it is the album that introduced me to the band, I don't know. It has always been my favorite.

I saw them at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles a couple of months ago-- Joey Santiago is amazing! A very underrated guitar player.

18. Haven't seen "Fight Club," nor do I intend to.
But you want to hear something weird, pertaining to a post above?

When I was about 7 or 8, in the late 60's, "The Monkees" were on tour, and I saw them with my two older sisters.

The opening act though was this killer guitarist who wore wild outfits, and had to play while the audience was yelling "We want the Monkees!"

Guy named Jimi Hendrix. :wow:

Being a typical TV-raised kid, I couldn't care less about Hendrix, I was yelling with the rest of the audience.

19. wow that's quite a confession!
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 05:10 AM by FarceOfNature
well, at least you DID get to see him...don't let it haunt you! Eh, when I was 6 I had a crush on Lionel Richie! :wtf: was I thinking? I managed to miss the New Kids on the Block rage, but my sisters bought into that steaming pile....P.S. what do you have against Fight Club? Loved it, much much better than the book actually. I personally think Chuck Paluhnik is overrated as an author, but his dystopian visions come across well on screen.

21. I got choked up seeing them last month in Milwaukee. Then in Chicago.
Then a couple of nights ago when I finally got the CD of the Chicago show.

But not last night. First of all, MGtH is so not my favorite Pixies song (though the last verse is sublime). Secondly, Paul had to ruin it with his stupid-ass keyboard playing and WHY THE FUCK DOES THAT ASSHAT HAVE TO JAM WITH EVERY BAND THEY HAVE ON?

Still, it's nice to see them finally receiving their due (and some money).

22. But
That keyboard part Paul was playing is in the actual recording, at the end of the song (helps to isolate the right speaker if you want to hear it). Granted, its not as loud in the mix as it may have been on Letterman. I kind of liked it.

something came up. Can't believe I never saw them in the old days when they weren't well known at all.
