The new scratching post..
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 12:40 AM by SoCalDem
We priced them at Petsmart..Wowwwwwiiiieee:(..
So Bill made them one from carpet remnants from when he worked on the MGM Grand.. His company helped design/build it, and he was there for almost 2 years.. The carpet guys threw away a rather large piece, and he snagged it.. We intended to have it bound and use it as an area rug.. (not after we priced it:)..)

So far, the little ones love it, but the wallpaper-remover (SweeitiePie) has ignored it :(

oops forgot the pictures...brb :).. I am having a baaaaad day posting here..

1. They seem to like it.
Is that Sara, the ear nibbler, in the back?

2. How Do Cats Know?
How do cats know what a scratching post is for? Do you have a way to introduce them to the idea? Perhaps you bring the animal over and let it watch you as you claw at the scratching post.

Or perhaps - forgive me for saying this - the animal can figure it out without your help. I can hear you say They're quite smart, you know.

I sat on the base and "pretended" to scratch on it, and the babies came right over and climbed it.. then they just started scratching on it.. Of course the trick is to train them that they can ONLY use it.. That will take some doing.. They are actually quite good except for SweetiePie who is determined to remove my wallpaper in the hall :(..

4. Nice job on it.
We need another one too. I was bidding on one on ebay that a guy at work listed but I let it go. I figured that I'd find one cheaper at a garage sale than what it went for.

I find that the cats like the feel of back side of the carpet better than the plushy stuff on the front. I think if we make one that we'll try the post part with the back side out, or get some of that sisal stuff.

5. I thought about that,
but doesn't it tear up the soft little pads on their little paws???
