3. He seemed like any big wig.
If I remember correctly, he wasn't being an asshole about that individual mother, or even the situation in general, he was being a general sort of asshole in that he didn't feel like being bothered and was on his way somewhere.

Just the kind of behavior I'd expect from a person in his position.

4. Yes, but...
Michael Moore overdoes it. Who knows what the situation was? Maybe he was late for something and this dude shows up and shoves a camera in his face.

Not defending it, but I don't believe that Clark was necessarily evading the issue.

On the other hand, Clark should come out with a statement on it one way or the other. It's a big movie.

5. As I recall
Clark was being somewhat sociable until Moore spoke about the mother and welfare to work - at which point Clark became a total A-hole. He could have said he was late for something but given info about seting up a meeting to discuss. He was a TOTAL A-Hole. And I never thought ill of him before - but he is clearly part of corporate America: All the breaks for ME and none for YOU! Shut Up! Go Away! Nobody cares what you think any way!

I love your paintings. Especially the abstract florals.

Which part of the country are you located in, if you don't mind me asking?

14. Remember how Bob Eubanks was even worse in "Roger & Me"?
What is it with TV hosts and Michael Moore movies?

And although I generally regard Charlton Heston as a pompous ass who turned his back on progressive politics, I have to say he didn't come off as horrible in "Bowling for Columbine," except for the hideous "cold, dead hands" line while posing with the gun. He's in ill health and didn't have to talk to Moore, but he actually went ahead with the interview. I give him points for at least being willing to talk.

17. Did you hate the 'cold dead hands' comment...
...because of it's timing so near the Columbine situation or just in general?

19. I'll answer that RoeBear
It was the timing of the event that bothered me.

Like rubbing salt in a wound .

Heston was right the NRA has a right to go and speak
where they want when they want . It was just incredibly
insensitive IMHO

20. Correct me if I'm wrong, but
wasn't the "cold dead hands" part spliced from the previous year's NRA National Conv in NC?

As far as the convention, it wasn't mentioned, but much of the NRA conv was cancelled. Not all of it was because that was their nation convention and people were travelling from all over the country to go there. Then about 2 weeks before hand, Columbine occured. Well, airlines don't refund you on tickets, and some members likely scheduled vacation to attend this, so they wouldn't be too happy about that. I believe they ended up just hosting the main convention where they elect officers for the next year.

Anyway, I think Heston didn't accept Moore's interview in order to "make a stand". I think he had no clue who Moore was, and didn't find out until later.

15. I hate ambush interviews
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 12:39 PM by Ratty
I've always hated them, no matter who does it or who the victim is. I used to watch Howard Stern on TV but turned it off when his jerk interviewer would go out in public and ambush celebrities and ask questions about anal sex or their period or whatever. Hate them on news magazines and expose shows too. I don't know why people like to see this kind of thing, it's so patently unfair, there's no defense against it, a person should have the right to prepare for such things. It makes people guilty in the court of public opinion without benefit of a trial.

I didn't see Bowling for Columbine but I saw the Charleton Heston clips enough to know he was asking for it, knew exactly what he was getting into, agreed to do the interview, then got pissed when he realized he was in over his head.

I never heard anything about the Dick Clark segments.

21. he's on tv...some goofy 'man sensitive' show!
the jackass owns a restaurant where the workers must travel for hours to clean homes because there's not enough pay, and meanwhile her baby finds a gun and takes it to school where lil girl gets killed....the mama gets demonised, tho not as bad as the uncle whose gun the boy found while he was at uncle's home being babysat.....uncle gets charged but Clark walks and the state that couldn't afford to allow welfare moms to stay home rouses itself to righteous wrath .....
fuken pigs....hell's waiting for all of them.

Fuck dick clark, never had any animosity against that walking silcon experiment until I saw that movie. He has had pleanty of time to clarify the incident, but never has. So, plainly, he doesn't give a fuck about that poor lady, her son, or that little girl who got that bullet right in her chest.
