Good pen
I'm looking to buy a good pen. I want a ball-point, something over $20. Must have a cap and no pocket clip. Any suggestions?

(I'm a compulsive pen chewer, i broke my habit of losing sunglasses by buying a pair I couldn't really afford, so i took really good care of them...had them for years now) I dont want a pen that you twist to open because I'll just constantly twist it and if there is a clip I'll break it off). I want something that is high quality but not totally outrageous. I've been in a save up and buy a good one rather than being the good american consumer and buying crap and replacing it every six months kick. So help me out here! (I easily spend more than $20/month on pens that I simply chew to death) so this may seem like an extravagance but it really isnt.

1. I am very partial to Waterman fountain pens
but they also make ball point versions. They do, however, need to be unscrewed and have a clip...

On the upside, they are really well balanced and attractive, and that fact kept me from chawing them down. They also make metal ones that can't be chewed.

2. My favorite ballpoint of all time
Jimnie Zebra Retractable. Fit your hand like a glove. I buy 'em by the box.

3. I don't know about nice pens
but I like this:

I've been in a save up and buy a good one rather than being the good american consumer and buying crap and replacing it every six months kick.

I have been trying to do a similar thing myself. I think our use, toss, and BUY, BUY, BUY culture is very harmful.

6. Thanks!
It sucks having to wait a bit longer but the payoff is so much better. I now have a bunch of items that are lasting me a lot longer. One of the biggies for me is buying real wood furniture rather than pressboard with veneer. I have a bed I'll be able to leave to my kids. next purchase is a dining room (well kitchen actually) table. I also bought the top of the line kitchen aid mixer, that sucker will never break and since it is the top of the line i'll never question whether I need the model up for some cooking task. We're working on a complete set of all-clad pots/pans as well (one piece at a time...those will also go to the kids).

7. Get a
Fisher Space Pen, come in various designs, pen is pressurized so that you can write with paper on the ceiling, etc.

8. Not expensive
and not a great looking pen, but I love the feel and
write of a Bic GripRoller.

9. Uni-Ball "Vision Elite"
Good writing utensil, refillable, but it's cheap and has a pocket clip. I can't think of ANY pen meant to be portable that doesn't have a clip. Even my pre-war Rapidographs have clips.

10. My all time favorite: I own three of these:
the Pilot Namiki Vanishing POint:

Its a retractable fountain pen--very cool and uses cartridges or you can refill its adapter. Check it out-- runs about $120, so definitely a pen you won't want to lose. I guard mine jealously.

In a community as large as this, there is always someone who can answer a question no matter how silly! Thanks so much.
