I live in a Haunted House!
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 07:50 AM by corksean
I moved to this house nine months ago, and learned from neighbours that it was meant to be haunted. I didn't pay much attention, although I started to notice weird stuff like things falling off shelves for no reason and once or twice I thought I heard footsteps on the stairs. But I never saw anything until last night.
I was heading for bed and went to the kitchen to make sure everything was switched off. I walked in and saw a figure at the far end of the room. I thought it was the wife and started to say that I was off to bed when I suddenly realised it wasn't her, but a middle-aged woman in a grey dress with an apron, just staring at the wall! I froze for a second, and then she just disappeared. Hairs were standing up everywhere, but I was more shocked than scared.
I was going to call the wife and tell her but decided not to freak her out.
I didn't sleep much last night thinking about it but now, in the cold light of day, I think it's kinda cool having something / someone else living with us.
BTW, the house is about two hundred years old and used to be a coach house. It's also said that JM Barrie (the guy who wrote Peter Pan) lived here for a while. It's a beautiful, peaceful place (see image) and I can see why some people might have trouble leaving.

first, let him run around in the white house in the middle of the night, in his underpants, crying for his daddy to come save him from the ghost. make sure she films that too!

 That's a very nice place you have there.

Awww. Your ghost is probably very lonely. Would you ever be interested in doing a little digging to find out who she is/was?

13. My daughter says she saw a Civil War POW in our house...
Our neighbour across the street used to own our house, and he used to ask us if the young fellow still went up and down the back stairs. Other neighbours claimed to have seen figures sitting on patio and porch furniture and walking down the alley.

I had heard things, but never saw the fellow, who I named "Cletus" and I used to yell out "You need to get heading home, Cletus, the war's over!"

Our neighbourhood had been the site of Camp Morton, the North's version of Andersonville.....

15. The house I grew up in was haunted
the first owner had shot himself in the head in the backyard. As a kid I used to see a faint, bloody face on the wall every night and I would have to turn the other way to not see it. I found out later about the suicide. No joke. We used to also here people running around upstairs, when no one was, and we were downstairs.

21. Well have a chat with the lass! I bet she's completely harmless and just
looking for company.

She certainly doesn't seem malevolent, so live and let live. Tell her not to scare your wife, etc.

Think of her as a roommmate that doesn't eat, use gas, electric, phone or pay rent!

23. There was something
or someone in the home we lived in before this one. It was one of those major fixer uppers. Every now and then when I was painting, I would see something out of the corner of my eye. The figure wasn't defined, but more wispy cloud like, always at either the end of the hallway or by the front door. I sensed that it was female.

I chalked it up to paint fumes, and didn't mention it to my husband. He already thought I was crazy, why add fuel to the fire? Besides, it never frightened me.

One evening after having seen it again as I was painting the hallway, I finally asked him if he had ever noticed anything odd in the house.
His response floored me. He said, "Are you referring to the spirit in the hallway or by the front door?" I almost fell off my chair.

Once we were finished with all the repairs, we never saw her again. Undoubtedly, the strangest thing I have ever experienced.

25. I grew up in one
My parents still live there and things still happen. My nephew has seen and heard things also, but to him it doesn't seem to be a big deal.
The house I am in now had a woman spirit living there, and I had her removed. The woman I had over to remove her gave me her name and why she was there. I researched the names of the owners, but could only go back to the early 70s. I then asked the neighbor (who has lived there forever) about the name and he knew them. He went on to tell me a lot of the things that the woman who came over told me. It was pretty wild.

I have heard footsteps when I am alone in the house.
