Haven't seen anything about "Legends of Earthsea"
so I'll just say that I was extremely disappointed. Why does the SciFi Network think they need to change the basic story of a true fantasy classic? I thought the casting was good, I just couldn't get past the changed story line. Kind of revisionist fantasy, if you will.

2. Disappointed as well, but I haven't seen anything I like
originally produced by SciFi channel. Stargate & Atlantis are exceptions because it was originally a Showtime franchise.

4. I liked Farscape...
That was a SciFi Original. I am not familiar with the original plot of Earthsea. Cliff Notes version, anyone?

12. They changed a lot.
The stories ran more parallel than intertwined - Ged pursuing his wizarding skills and Tenar basically imprisoned on Atuan as priestess. I don't recall any King/priestess treachery storyline at all.

The biggest part of the story was really Ged coming to grips with his hunger for power and knowledge, juxtaposed with Ogion's philosophy of quiet temperance. There was a much bigger change in Ged's temperament once the gebbeth was unleashed by his hand. The chase/pursuit took up a good part of the first book.

Tenar's story was much more brutal than the movie - the temple of Atuan was a most unforgiving place, and the high priestess was not at all the "motherly" figure portrayed in the movie. In fact, Tenar is chided for not putting Ged to death once she had him trapped in the labyrinth.

The Ring of Areth-Akkbe story was much more involved than in the movie.

3. scifi network has gone downhill completely...
they canceled Farscape, invisible man, the chronicle, outer limits, and other fine efforts in order to produce horrible cheap "creature feature' movies...you know, giant spiders, crocodiles, snakes, oh my!.

they are singlehandedly putting the death knell on the perception of science fiction for good.

so, when they have these miniseries, I expect nothing from them, and therefore am not truly disappointed.

6. I watched it, knowing nothing about the source material....
and, boy, did it suck.

It was like watching paint dry. I kept waiting and waiting for anything to happen and it never did.

This seems to be the norm for anything produced by the Sci-Fi Channel, though. Every one of their "miniseries events" has really been awful.

7. the Hartford Courant...
The Courant called it the best miniseries of the year... but, what do they know? They endorsed Bush, too.

9. I haven't read the books,
and when I saw it advertised I thought it looked pretty cool. I liked 3 and half hours of it, but the last half hour was god awful! The ending was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid! ugh.
