I was at a Target store (located in an affluent suburb) the other day with my daughter. While we were looking for a hat and mittens for her, this woman with two elementary school aged girls comes up looking for hats and mittens for the girls and some for charity. One of the girls picked out two pair of gloves, presumably one for her and one for charity, and Mom puts one of them back and tells her, "No, honey, those are too expensive for the Giving Tree." GRRRRRRR. This woman was wearing very expensive clothes and jewelry, but wanted to cheap out on the charitable giving.
When I donate new items to charity, I always buy things that I would buy for my own family. In my mind, it is not really giving, if you are donating something of lesser quality that what you would use yourself.
Ok I am done ranting!

this weekend and we're going to pick out some stuff for one child. I feel the same way---just because they are in need doesn't mean they only deserve crap.

I mean, she may well feel that but why make a point of saying such a thing to the child? To teach her to be cheap at a young age? :wtf:
