I'm in freakin Los Angeles again
*koff koff*

It was 18 degrees in Boston when I left, so I guess I shouldn't gripe. But damn, the air here is yellow.

4. Arlo says hey
Arlo Guthrie - "Coming into Los Angeles"

Coming in from London from over the pole
Flying in a big airliner
Chickens flyin' everywhere around the plane
Could we ever feel much finer

Coming into Los Angeles
Bringing in a couple of ki's
Don't touch my bags if you please
Mister customs man

There's a guy with a ticket to Mexico
No, he couldn't look much stranger
Walkin' in the hall with his things and all
Smiling said he was the Lone Ranger

Hip woman walkin' on the moving floor
Tripping on the escalator
There's a man in the line and she's blowin' his mind
Thinking that he's already made her

And I missed all but the last 9 seconds of Clips/Jazz. x( I hate it when that happens. I was in a meeting I couldn't get out of, and the whole time I was sitting and thinking, "I'd rather be watching BASKETBALL!"

In two weeks I go to Clips/Jazz here. Come to Staples and I'll buy you a beer.

51. You're probaly right
Speaking of knife fights, someone got stabbed in an apartment complex nearby here about a couple weeks ago. Mesa is a big town, I've barely covered portions of it. Mostly West Mesa. It is not bad overall, it just has it's problem areas. I think where I lived the past 6-7 years clouds my overall judgment, in a 1-2 mile radius from here there is so much crime. Walking around after 11pm is simply not smart unless you got a weapon, that is when most of the troublemaking takes place. I know some who've been a victim of violent crime, I guess I'm lucky because the worse that has happened to me was having a gun pulled out on me during the daytime on a quiet street(the street I live on in fact) and had a knife pulled out on me as well.

Get a rental car and a Thomas Guide and get thee up PCH to somewhere north and west of Santa Monica. I recommend Zuma Beach and Point Dume at sunset.... Or Mulholland Highway west of Malibu Canyon Road, say the stretch west of Malibu Lake.... Or Lunada Bay, in Palos Verdes, if there's a full moon up and some wind.

Eh, just have fun.

Spent some wonderful times there, years ago. Never saw that bit of sandy beach that's in your photo, though...it's all rocks with seagull droppings at the water's edge for about 10 miles east of the Point, as I recall.

Oh, SoCal...my heart's home country. The Other Promised Land, in rather too many ways. Hope to be there again this spring after years of regretting my moving away.

27. hey neighbor
I'm in Atwater Village and Grittith park is literally my backyard (there's
a wee swath allocated to the park over the freeway and across the river).

An early morning walk above the observatory is great on the lungs, before
the air inversion sends the fumes of the freeway wafting skyward.

Mr. Pitt - w/luck we could get some rain while you're here, and the you'll see
how glorious the daybreak is following...
I love LA. (thank you Mr. Newman)

40. indeed!
I have a nose that can smell a rancid washcloth from fifty yards,
so I LOVE walking the park. I love the neighborhoods here. I lived
for two years w/out a car in Los Feliz and could walk or take a short
bus ride to the observatory, to the shops; it was great to live like that
in the midst of this megalopolis - it was a very "village" experience.

Now, I'm 10 minutes from downtown, but all my neighbors are horsey's
and pony's (flies, too). When the air cools in the evening it kind of sux
b/c the freeway fumes hang low. But, what the hell - I smoke my camel
shortdogs on the porch in the evening and that smells infinitely
better...ha!

It was a joke, yeesh. And I said "one of the only" not "the only" bc I love my L.A. DUers.

If you have ever seen David Letterman riff on NYC stereotypes then you know we have a sense of humor about the good-natured abuse that comes our way.

As for the road rage, I stand by that. Didn't say it was everyone there but too many and it gets worse everytime I visit.

edit to add: The only place I have ever had a gun pulled on me in traffic or otherwise, is L.A. -- driving up the Conejo grade.
