What do you think are the most beautiful sounding names... |
|
for boy or girls, though I guess I'm thinking mostly girls names myself...
For girls I like more old fashioned sounding names like Delores, Caroline, Audrey, Wendy, or Olivia...
I know there are a lot of new and unusual sounding names out there, but some of them are quite nice...help me think of some new one...

What a lady! Came over from Adderegoole Parish, Mayo, Ireland shortly after her older sister perished on the Titanic. Nora worked as a manicurist at the Lexington in Chicago, where she met her wonderful husband, Syl, who worked for Al Capone (ran crap games, etc.--nothing tooooo scary). Our daughet is named after her.
Hate Nora Dunn, though.

When I was in France, I met a lovely little girl named Aveline, and the name has stuck with me since. I'd never use it because I have an uber-German last name and it would just sound silly. But, I always found it delightful after my encounter with the little girl.

is on our list (I'm due in July)! We have a French last name, so we've gone with French names.
Our daughter's name is Genevieve (French pronounciation, naturally). I wanted Geneva (my mother's name), but my husband nixed that idea, so Genevieve was the compromise.
We're also partial to Vivienne, Isabeau and Aurore.

personally, I can't say I understand the popularity of exotically different spellings of standard names, either. But I didn't know Sean was such a popular name in the US. I think, of course, that you could be a lot worse off, namewise, than having a lot of Seans in your family. But, as they say, "until you have walked in the other man's moccassins..."!

In the original Irish spelling there's a stroke called a fada (pronounced fodda) over the "a" as in /. So if someone asked me how I spell my name I would say "S E A fada N."
BTW, as well as being the Irish for John, Sean is also the Irish for Jack.

That's what my youngest was gonna be named, until I decided to name her after my recently deceased gran. Her name's Ruby, which is of the same old fashioned ilk so I was cool with it. :)

It reminded me of one more I liked, but that I did not included on the original list: Veronica.

When my daughter Melanie was about 20 months old, she too had some trouble with the letters "R" & "T" She also liked to call big things "Mommy" things and small things "Baby Things" So if she saw a mini school bus, she'd say "baby bus" and a large one would be a "Mommy bus".
So we were walking down a busy commercial street in our neighborhood and she saw a large tractor trailer truck. She stood up in her stroller and very loudly proclaimed "Look at that big mommy fuck!!!"
Everyone turned to look at us and I said "Yes, honey, that is a big big TRUCK". It was a relief when she started to say FRUCK!

I don't know if it's all that beautiful sounding, but it's not very common, and I always get compliments on it. My mom's name is Belinda; that's pretty unusual, too.
My son's name is Christian, which has become VERY popular in recent years. I LOVE his name, but I don't like it when people want to call him "Chris".

102. The best names I have |
|
*ever* come across, male and family, are of players in the French (male) soccer team which won the World Cup. The best has to be Bixente Lizarazu. I mean how can that be topped?
Then there's Christian Karembeu, Christophe Dugarry, Marcel Desailly and Zinedine Zidane.
In politics: Boutros Boutros Ghali and U Thant, both former UN chiefs. Exotic monikkers seem to be a prerequisite for the job. Khoffi Annan isn't bad, either, is it?
I like Susan, too. And Ruth. Margaret.

119. probably the most beautiful name I ever heard |
|
was when I was working in Boston... part of my job was calling people (not telemarketing), and I had to call this German girl named Silke Freihammer. I was having a bad day, but she was really sweet, and I was almost tempted to ask her to marry me just so I could have her last name. Not really. The rest of that is true, though.
