EEP. My Parents Found My Cigarettes!
I was going through my closet trying to find all my old backpacks because my dad said he needed one for whatever reason, and I found 4 of them and just handed them over without thinking...err, apparently there was an almost empty pack of Marlboro's in one from back in the day and so now they know I smoke.

Dammit! :spank:

3. They probably already knew.
Unless their olfactory senses are completely disabled, they must have at least had an inkling.

My parents knew I smoked long before I admitted it.

Now the lecture: quit! Quit while you're young! Please! I smoked for fifteen years (ages 17 to 32), and I wish I'd never started.

I just didn't want them to know because I know they hate smoking and always told me not to do it.

10. Just a question
why did you decide to start smoking? I never had the urge when I was younger. Not condemning or condoning, just curious.

Another suggestion: if you are going to keep on smoking, try rolling your own. Rolling tobacco made overseas doesn't contain chemicals. My husband, who is 54, has been smoking since he was 12, but smokes this kind. The doctors who took x-rays recently couldn't believe it, because his lungs were clear. It's the chemicals, like those in Marlboro, that cause a lot of the problems.

if you live with them and you know they hate it, it may be a tad disrespectful to smoke around them.

20. Each year American cigarette companies give millions to Republicans
and Republican organisations.

I used to smoke. Granted, I smoked Dunhills, but imported at $7.00 a pack, it was even all the more reason to quit.

Quit. Now. Cancer isn't pretty. I've seen it. Emphysema is not a nice way to die. Unless you want to die choking for breath, too weak to even call for help.

26. I started when I was 13 and had to put up with adults asking me
if I'd "seen the cancerous lung in the science museum?" & stuff like that. I hated their stupid comments. I wish I had listened to them because it's a terrible habit to kick now 22 years later and I am TRYING HARD!!!
By the way, when my mom found my smokes she made me smoke without break until I puked. It did not help me to stop smoking, but I've never forgotten it.
It can be devestating to parents to learn their kids are smoking. It's like finding out they're taking a bit of poison everyday. They don't want you to hurt yourself. There is NOTHING good about cigarettes. Really.

27. Dude, that's not as bad as the one day I was home for the holidays...
...and I was pulling stuff out of my suitcase when all of a sudden my bong went flying across the living room.

I looked up to see if my mom had seen it....and indeed she had.

33. Yeah...
I had my bong wrapped up in a T-shirt for safe keeping, and I wasn't thinking when I pulled it out of the suitcase. It went flying...

It reminded me of the time I was a freshman in college, and my mom came to visit my campus. I picked her up at the airport and I opened my trunk to put in her luggage. Low and behold...there was a half empty case of Bud Light in my trunk. She never said anything....but we both knew she saw it.

30. My Dad was probably about your age when he started smoking
He died when he was 41.

Seriously - get rid of the things. There is absolutely no reason you need cigerettes except for this false sense of security and acceptance.

Awful, awful way to die. And he hadn't smoked for over 10 years, either.

35. My sympathies...
I started smoking in college -- as both a peer pressure issue (idiot!), but more a rebellion issue. One of my parents is a physician, the other big against cigarettes (doesn't mind cigars). I had caught warnings and hell my entire life.

When I got busted, my parents found a carton in my suitcase when we were traveling on a cruise. They didn't tell me that trip, but proceeded to threaten: not paying for school expenses, taking my car away, cutting off all financial ties. Although we worked this one out, it was touch and go for a while.

Interestingly, every one of my cousins, none with smoking parents, all are current or ex-smokers.

Good luck -- and when you decide to quit, I wish you luck (hasn't worked for me either).
