These virus emails are driving me insane |
|
I keep a variety of email accounts. They're all infected.
My work account is getting about one every five minutes. I'm very careful about keeping this account hidden except to directly work-related people.
My personal account is getting about one every half hour. I keep this account clean as well.
My account that I keep for newsgroups and whatever is getting one every fifteen minutes.
I spent most of Monday running around the office chasing them.
Two techs were just here chasing them.
I was at a meeting this morning and we blew half an hour talking about what to do about them. We can't patch fast enough to keep up with the Micro$oft bugs.
Work here has just about ground to a halt with everybody clicking, clicking, clicking getting rid of all the trash.
In the time took to type this, I just got three more.

1. I really do feel your pain |

I spent most of last week fixing a critical application server that apparently got hammered by a glitchy Critical Update installer.

2. Then You'll LOVE This One |

This just in: NEW VIRUS WARNING
If you receive an e-mail with a subject line of “Badtimes,” delete it immediately WITHOUT reading it. This is the most dangerous E-mail virus yet.
It will re-write your hard drive. Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer.
It will recalibrates your refrigerator’s coolness setting so all your ice cream melts and milk curdles.
It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, reprogram your ATM access code, screw up the tracking on your VCR and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CDs you try to play.
It will give your ex-boy/girlfriend your new phone number.
It will mix antifreeze into your fish tank.
It will drink all your beer and leave its dirty socks on the coffee table when there’s company coming over.
It will hide your car keys when you are late for work and interfere with your car radio so that you hear only static while stuck in traffic.
Badtimes will make you fall in love with a hardened pedophile.
It will give you nightmares about circus midgets.
It will replace your shampoo with Nair and your Nair with Rogaine, all while dating your current boy/girlfriend behind your back and billing their hotel rendezvous to your Visa card.
It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Badtimes, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear.
Badtimes will give you Dutch Elm disease.
It will leave the toilet seat up and leave the hairdryer plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub.
It will remove the forbidden tags from your mattresses and pillows, and refill your skim milk with whole.
It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.
These are just a few signs.
Be afraid.
Be very, very afraid.
:-)

10. I sent this to an acquaintance a few years ago, and I got a nasty reply |
|
about it being a total hoax! (I think they were pissed because I sent anti-repiglican e-mails to them on a regular basis).
I replied to their reply with something like, "Sorry...I should have warned you that the email could seriously impair your sense of humor." :D

I was so sure that I would egt infested, since I am online a lot and use AOL..but with Nortons & zone alarm, and AOL's new spam blocker, I have had exactly 5 e-mails in a whole week.. I used to get hundreds a day:)
I am a happy camper.. and I did not get the blaster worm thing either..
spam should be illegal.. :)

Being mad at microsoft is one thing malaciously doing harm to the millions of people who have to use their product is another. Being a vindictave person I'd gladly hold these people while their chestnuts are roasted. I bet they're repukes.

... which is down from the 572 I got the day before. This is getting ridiculous.

7. Hmmmm. And your email program - is it |
|
manufactured in Redmond, WA, by any chance? If that's the case, then whoever bought deserves flogging with a spam lash for not putting any more research & thought into the choice. I personally like Groupwise (novell) and strongly dislike Lotus notes, but big companies really need to research things better.

We get those mails; I'm 100% positive that my machine is clean (As those of the other posters). I get the mails (actually I block them) , regardless of which OS or Mail-Client I'm running at the moment.
And it is not as if any other OS is immune against this type of worm. Executing an attached binary is a bad idea; no OS can really protect users doing that.

8. Yahoo is doing a good job of cleaning them out |
|
I'll these these messages that I have "26 new email" but there's nothing in my box. I pleased that they clean them out as they come through but do they have to freaking announce it everytime it happens (my Yahoo Messager runs all the time)

11. I have no idea how many |

may have been directed my way. Bellsouth does not notify you usually if they've blocked spam or viruses. I have received Zero viruses and no spam for months. They are doing a good job. My company server also does an excellent job of filtering.

12. 216 at 10 a.m. yesterday |
|
Hey, I got over 200 yesterday at 10 a.m. I called the host for our email and web site system and he told me to set up a spam filter. I set up the system on our email addresses to block incoming .exe programs as well as any email that had microsoft in the body of the email. It worked for me. If my lowly guys can do it, yours can probably too. Give em a call. Good luck.
