I quit my job today
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 07:01 PM by jiacinto
I finally decided to leave my job today. I sent a resignation letter to my boss this afternoon explaining why I could no longer work for the orginzation. I won't mention the details here in public as that is between me and my boss. But my comanager left here and I couldn't do the job alone. That was the final straw.

I feel very bad for leaving this job but I had to move on. Things just were not working out for me.

I am probably going to go to the Aventura Mall tommorrow to get a job while I look for something else.

25. No, but I got this email today
Hello,

My name is J Dunn. I live at 6503 N Campbell, Kansas City, MO, 64118.

The reason I'm writing you is simply an appeal to you for help. I had lost my job last year and tried to get a business going online because I couldn't find another job. Making money is extremely difficult on the internet, at least it was for me, and with all the losses I took I had to cease my business and look for a job again.

I could not find a job that pays much and in time my finances dwindled to the point of me having to file a bankruptcy. However in order for me to keep my house and car, I have too keep current on them, but that is not happening.

Now I am at the point of losing my house and car and am trying to find a way to save them. I found a second job, but it's part time and doesn't bring in enough money fast enough. I am past due too much money to bring them current in a timely manner. Now I find myself looking for ways to borrow or raise money to keep what I got. The problem is with my credit so bad I can't seem to find anywhere to borrow from.

I know the problem is mine to deal with and get out of and in time I will figure out something, but it has currently gotten out of my control and I worry about the effect it would have on the 2 young kids I have at home.

I hate to ask anyone for money, but in this situation I'm desperate, and am asking that if you have it in your heart to help someone in need, I would very much appreciate any kind of help that you might want to give to get me past this hurdle.

This is no gimmick or come on. It's just simply a call for any help you might want to give.

And I will be very thankful for ANY amount you want to help with. You can send it through the mail, if you wish, or you can send it via paypal. My paypal address is jdunn1119@hotmail.com

Sincerely,

J Dunn

Really bad times when people are panhandling on the net. I hate Bush and his staff so much..Even if it is a hoax it is by someone who can't get a job...

but I've decided that I have to start my own business and be independent.

funny aside: I was being interviewed for a job by a kid (maybe 30 years old) and I'm over 50. The interview was pathetic, right out of a text book and strictly pro-forma. (this kid wasn't going to hire me on a bet and I knew it)

He asked: "What is your goal in your career?"

I couldn't stand it anymore so I said: "To never have to call an asshole "Sir" again!" I think he wet his pants.

on edit: forgot the most important part to Carlos.

You made a good decision man.everything works best when you take a stand....you'll land on your feet!

thing to do for us and our democracy. I hope none were repukes.

I don't know about Florida but here in Missouri anyone can carry voter registration cards and register someone to vote as long as that person presents the correct identification.

You can now feel like you are moving forward? Taking more control of your situation? I have read your posts over the past couple of days and I can see you face a lot of hardship. Maybe taking control of something, anything will empower you to feel better about what you are going thru. You are certainly in the thoughts of a lot of DUers.

27. Cool
This is a step forward, right? You were hating things and now you are doing something about them, so this is a good thing. This sounds trite, but every single time something happened that, at the time, I thought was really awful (losing our first farm, my husband getting hurt so bad he had to switch jobs, losing our LAST farm...) it always turned out to be the seeds of something much better. The thing is, keep your eye open for the better thing. Good luck!!

31. More trite stuff
Words have power. Real and serious power. I train people every day and the one thing I have learned is that the language they use to describe their endeavors is a clear indicator of how successful they will be. Those who view setbacks as problems to be solved and use positive language will nearly always get through those problems well. Those who use negative language to describe similar problems as insurmountable or who view themselves as failures for stumbling will either not manage to solve the problem or it will take them twice as long.

Try this: Tonight, when there is nobody around and you are laying in your bed in the dark and nobody will know you have done this but you and yourself, create a vision in your head of where you want to be in a year. No holds barred (Ok, don't wish to be Shaquille ONeal or anything like that). Visualize yourself doing whatever it is that you would like to accomplish over the next year in as clear and minute detail as you can manage. Keep thinking about it as you fall asleep. Keep doing this every night. Every morning, think about what you can do that day to take one baby step towards where you want to be. If it means sending out a resume or joining a class teaching a skill you need to acquire, just make yourself do one thing. Even if it is just standing and looking in the mirror and saying, "I want to be __________ and I can do it." (this is way harder than you think, BTW. I do it sometimes and I feel like a retard even though it is just me and the mirror) And lastly but definitely not leastly, quit talking about yourself and your life in the negative. If you think it sucks, it sucks. If you think its ok, its ok.

If you do all that and go get butt wasted occasionally, things might just turn around for you.

48. Language is also a description
And choosing to use language that is inaccurate may alleviate negative emotions, but it can't and doesn't change fundamental, systematic failures of certain type of employment.

We can talk about loving our jobs and increasing production and finding opportunities, but there are many places that have high turnover for a reason. Few nonprofit employees could support a family. Tech positions are in such high demand that virtually everyone is expendable. As the country moves towards the "Dilbert" mode of management, powerful language is not enough.

Carlos, this is an opportunity for you and I hope that you find a great place to work. Whatever you choose, you deserve to be happy.

I quit my job a couple of weeks ago after 6 years of stress and abuse. I didn't have any job prospects, but amazingly, a few have popped up that I would have never considered had I still been employed. So keep your eyes open, things have a way of opening up when you choose a different path.

39. That's it exactly!
I thought I was too old without enough marketable skills, and that I'd never make the money I was making at that job. I was limiting myself by feeling trapped by job and once I quit, really positive things started happening. I'm convinced that the opportunities were out there all the time, I just couldn't see them because I didn't want to.
